Manager, Software Engineering
Location: Chattanooga, TN (Headquarters) | Onsite/Hybrid
Lead innovation, mentor high-performing engineering teams, and help shape the future of technology at TEL. As the Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions that support critical business operations and strategic initiatives.
This role combines technical leadership, people management, and project execution. You'll work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to drive technology solutions, advance engineering best practices, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. What You'll Do
Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers by providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing team culture focused on continuous learning and engineering excellence.
  • Manage resource allocation, workload balancing, and project timelines to ensure delivery against organizational priorities and business objectives.
  • Build a positive and accountable work environment that encourages growth, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Software Development
  • Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of software applications and technology solutions.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, architects, and developers to define technical requirements, interfaces, specifications, and system architectures.
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, development best practices, and quality assurance processes through code reviews and technical leadership.
  • Lead the responsible adoption and use of AI-assisted development tools for coding, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and workflow automation while ensuring all AI-generated outputs are reviewed, validated, and aligned with company standards.
  • Promote the delivery of high-quality, secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
Project Management
  • Manage project priorities, risks, issues, and escalations, ensuring timely resolution and successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve software development and project management processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and team effectiveness.
  • Balance technical priorities with business objectives to ensure organizational success.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Coordinate and cross-train with software developers, analysts, and other teams to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration across the organization.
  • Serve as a liaison with external vendors and technology partners on select projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate technical concepts, project updates, risks, and strategic recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Documentation and Compliance
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational standards, development best practices, and established governance processes.

Education amp; Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of software development experience, preferably within the Microsoft .NET ecosystem.
  • Previous experience in a software engineering leadership or management role overseeing development teams and technical initiatives.
  • Strong experience with programming languages and technologies such as C#, .NET, JavaScript, Python, and Java.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and leading teams in collaborative delivery environments.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Databricks, Azure Functions, Azure Web Services, Azure SQL Services, and responsive web application development is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and the ability to guide teams in their responsible and effective use, including understanding of prompt engineering basics, awareness of AI output limitations, model-assisted coding workflows, automation opportunities, and the importance of human review and validation of AI-generated content and code.
We offer a competitive salary range of $130,000 to $145,000, with compensation tailored to reflect your experience, expertise, and the value you bring to the role.
