Human oversight remains essential for complex decision-making and ethical considerations in software development.

What are Software Engineers?

Software Engineers are professionals who design, develop, test, and maintain computer software and systems. They use programming languages, engineering principles, and problem-solving skills to build applications, websites, or software solutions that meet specific needs. Software Engineers may work in a variety of industries, such as technology, finance, healthcare, or entertainment, collaborating with other team members to deliver functional and reliable software. Their role often involves analyzing user requirements, writing code, debugging errors, and continually improving software performance.

What are some common challenges software engineers face when collaborating on large development teams?

Software engineers working on large teams often encounter challenges with communication, code integration, and maintaining consistent coding standards. Coordinating across multiple developers can lead to merge conflicts and misunderstandings about project requirements or priorities. Job description

Software Engineer

The Opportunity:

Booz Allen is looking for a Software Engineer who is driven by purpose and ready to build software that directly supports missioncritical operations across the space domain. In this role, you'll design, develop, and enhance the software developed for ground systems and the realtime capabilities that space missions rely on.

You'll take ownership of complex engineering challenges - from modernizing legacy components to architecting new missionfocused capabilities that improve performance, resilience, and operational speed. Your work will shape how data is processed, how systems communicate, and how mission teams execute with precision.

This role is built for someone who thrives on solving hard problems, embraces innovation, and understands the responsibility of building software that must perform flawlessly. If you're motivated by mission impact, energized by technical depth, and ready to engineer solutions that advance GEOINT and space operations, we want to meet you.

Work with us as we shape systems for the better.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development with programming languages, such as Java, Python, Rust, or GO

  • 3+ years of experience with Linux-based systems, containers, and orchestration tools, such as Docker or Kubernetes

  • Experience transitioning legacy applications to a modernized microservice-based architecture

  • Experience working within a Cloud Service Provider (CSP), such as AWS, Azure, or Google

  • Experience using back-end and front-end languages to develop complete solutions

  • Experience creating solutions to complex problems within a collaborative, cross-functional team

  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, or 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience in an Agile environment

  • Experience acquiring client requirements and resolving workflow problems through automation optimization

  • Experience with C#, C, C++, JavaScript, React, or Node.JS

  • Ability to work with automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance

  • Master's degree

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.
