The Opportunity
This position is part of TC Energy's 3-year New Engineer-in-Training (NET) Program. The purpose of the NET Program is to provide broad exposure to various facets of TC Energy's US Natural Gas Business Unit, acquire hands-on experience, and build a rewarding career. During your time in the program, you'll have the opportunity to focus on building your technical competencies and soft skills through a formal training program. In addition, you'll build meaningful relationships through a network of experienced mentors. Rotational positions will include teams within US Projects, Commercial Operations, and Safety & Technical Services (S&TS).
Participants will rotate to a new team each year of the 3-year program to diversify experience and exposure. Candidates who enter this program must commit to the rotational nature of the program and be able to travel to the field for site visits or relocate for term assignments based on business needs.
Mandatory requirement: Minimum 4-month field-based assignment or equivalent field exposure
The program has opportunities for new graduate engineers in our various regional and field offices including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Houston, TX
  • Charleston, WV
  • Tinley Park, IL

Regarding assigned work locations, candidates must remain flexible to potential relocation at hire and between rotations to accommodate business needs.
Candidates will be selected to fill one of the following positions for their first rotation:
  • US Projects - Various positions
  • Commercial Operations - Facility or Operations Planning Engineer
  • Safety & Technical Services (S&TS) - Pipeline Integrity Engineer or Facilities, Reliability, Integrity (FRI) Engineer

US Projects - Various positions
The Projects teams play a crucial role in providing technical support for both facilities and pipeline projects. The projects encompass work on new and existing natural gas facilities, ensuring the optimal operation of critical systems and equipment such as compressors, turbines, and power systems. Additionally, the teams handle projects involving new and existing pipeline assets, making vital decisions about route selection, right-of-way, environmental permits, and construction methods.
What you'll do
  • Assume responsibility for engineering work associated with natural gas facilities, pipeline, or interconnect projects.
  • Schedule internal and ESP resources to support assigned projects
  • Manage project specific engineering contracts including periodic interface and oversight of hired Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)
  • Schedule design reviews, ensure proper stakeholder engagement during the design process, and establish direction for the project overall design product
  • Identify equipment design requirements and review equipment layouts and installation
  • Trigger material procurement process for all items to be purchased by the Company
  • Review project requisitions against company standards and specifications as applicable to project scope
  • Provide technical support throughout construction activities, including site visits and timely RFI responses
  • Coordinate efforts tied to project close out from an engineering perspective, i.e., redline review, as-building, equipment data gathering for the preventive maintenance system, etc.

Commercial Operations - Facility or Operations Planning Engineer
The Facility or Operations Planning Engineer works with internal commercial, marketing, and operations groups to determine and manage pipeline hydraulic capacity, provide operational support, and supports methods to increase system efficiency transporting natural gas on their various pipeline systems.
What you'll do
  • Use hydraulic modeling software (DNV Synergi Gas) to optimize, troubleshoot, and solve for hydraulic capacity
  • Use tools like Pi Vision, Power Bi, and SCADA to collect, analyze and display operational data
  • Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to evaluate pipeline operation and efficiency and to determine daily, monthly and annual pipeline capacity to meet customer requests
  • Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to evaluate maintenance impacts on pipeline capacity and on customers
  • Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to design new pipelines and expansion capacity projects
  • Coordinate with System Design, Gas Control, Operations, and Engineering regarding growth design and incorporate changes as appropriate
  • Other tasks as required

Safety & Technical Services (S&TS) - NET PI/FRI Engineer
The S&TS organization covers our cross-border Natural Gas Pipelines business with teams and priorities focused on Safety & Governance, Pipeline Integrity, Facilities Reliability & Integrity, and Integrated Planning. With ever evolving business demands, the position within S&TS may be placed within our Pipeline Integrity of Facilities Reliability & Integrity teams. Both teams play critical roles including, but not limited to, supporting the operation and maintenance of our asset base, and building and supporting our GPMC and Expense programs.
What you'll do (specific functions dependent on which team candidate is placed)
  • Provide Technical support to stakeholders across S&TS, Operations, and Commercial teams.
  • Assist engineers with Project scope and design development (pipeline integrity digs, repairs, compressor station/meter station rebuilds and modifications, etc.)
  • Facilitate Data Gathering initiatives, and support business intelligence and automation tools
  • Review and complete engineering assessments of various PI and FRI items (safe dig pressures, facility capacity studies, corrosion assessments, etc.)
  • Review and provide feedback on gas handling operations
  • Support Operations and US Regulatory personnel with State PUC & PHMSA audits (49 CFR 192)
  • Support broader S&TS strategic priorities
