Job description

Software Engineer, Growth at Garage (YC W24)
About us
Garage is building the platform that powers commerce across America's essential industries. We started by serving fire departments, where buying mission-critical vehicles and equipment used to take months of paperwork, phone calls, and waiting. We automate the entire transaction: payments, freight, paperwork, warranty, and financing. Months become minutes.
In under a year, we now serve local governments across all 50 states and have grown revenue >10x. We recently closed a $13.5M Series A ($18M total raised) from Infinity Ventures, Y Combinator, Initialized Capital, FJ Labs, and other top investors. We're early, we're moving fast, and we're just getting started.
About the role
Growth engineering at Garage builds the systems that turn our sales motion into a machine. You'll own the data infrastructure, internal tools, and AI-powered workflows that fill our pipeline, working closely with our sales team and the dealers, manufacturers, fleet operators, and government buyers who move specialty vehicles across the country. The industry runs on PDFs, phone calls, and software built in 2003, and we'd rather build the modern version in-house than wire together someone else's tools.
In this role, you will:
  • Build the data infrastructure that finds every buyer and seller in this industry and turns fragmented data into pipeline.
  • Ship internal tools that make our sales team dramatically more effective: outbound automation, lead routing, sequencing, deal-room tooling.
  • Apply AI and LLMs to unstructured data and turn it into signal that fills our pipeline.
  • Build agents that work in the background to compound our sales advantage.

We're looking for someone who:
  • Has 2+ years of software engineering experience preferred. A full software engineer, not a specialist.
  • Is extremely AI-native. You live in the frontier, and AI is how you ship.
  • Can track record of shipping high-quality products at scale, including with and for agents.
  • Has an edge. You think in systems, not tickets. Strong opinions, willing to question the status quo, and driven to become a real expert in whatever space you work in.
  • Has comfort being customer-facing, a desire to work in a fast-paced environment, and the drive to master your craft.

Nice to haves:
  • Startup experience as a technical co-founder or early engineer.
  • Experience working with messy real-world data from analog sources.
  • Familiarity with sales and marketing automation tools (Clay, HubSpot, Salesforce, Apollo).

You could work anywhere, so why Garage?
  • We've grown revenue over 10x in the last year and are well capitalized after a recent $13.5M Series A ($18M in funding raised total).
  • Our product is something people use everyday to buy the equipment local communities everywhere depend on.
  • We have a talent-dense, high-performance team where everyone joining now has an outsized impact.
  • What we've built works. We're backed by world-class vendors: Y Combinator, Infinity Ventures, Initialized Capital, FJ Labs, and more.
  • You'll be one of our first 35 employees, operating as a foundational member of the team, partnering alongside the company's founders.

The values that fuel us at Garage:
  • Growth oriented. We invest in people who grow as the company grows. We all should be constantly learning.
  • Humility. Everyone has a lot to give and a lot to learn. We believe in creating an environment where the best ideas win and acknowledging when we are wrong.
  • Customer focused. We have a genuine love for our customers. Customer success is our success.
  • Hack to success. We move fast and take big swings. We always aim for a solution that addresses 80% of the problem in 20% of the time. We make informed bets, launch quickly, and iterate.

What we offer:
  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • 100% covered health, dental and vision insurance (with additional buy-up options)
  • Unlimited paid time off every year in addition to company observed holidays
  • Daily lunch & dinner
  • $100 / month wellness stipend
  • 401(k) w/ employer match to help save for your future
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Bi-annual team offsite
  • Relocation assistance
