Familiarity with collaboration tools like GitHub, project management systems (e.g., Jira or Trello), and knowledge of cloud platforms or CRM systems commonly used in nonprofits is valuable. Job description

Description

The Senior Software Engineer (SDET) is a hybrid engineering role that combines hands-on testing, test automation development, and quality advocacy. At SendCutSend, this role will establish and own our front-end testing practice for our VueJS application, complementing the existing back-end test coverage in our Ruby codebase. The SDET is the bridge between "code complete" and "production ready."

This position is headquartered in Reno, NV. Preference may be given to local Reno-area candidates, but we are open to remote candidates as well. Must be willing to travel to the Reno Head quarters on an as needs basis.

Why SendCutSend?

SendCutSend is an on-demand manufacturing company specializing in custom sheet metal and CNC machining. We serve more than 150,000 engineers, fabricators, and businesses across the U.S. and Canada. We operate out of six facilities located in Nevada, Kentucky, and Texas.

Our business is built on reliability, accountability, quality, and constant improvement. Everyone here plays a real role in our success. We value people who are collaborative, innovative, and committed to detailed high-quality work. We're scaling fast and building the future of manufacturing. If you're excited to join the team and grow with us, we want to hear from you!

What you'll do

  • This is not a traditional QA role. The SDET writes production-quality code (test infrastructure, E2E suites, tooling), participates in design discussions, and has equal standing with engineers in the development process.
  • Build and own the front-end test automation framework for our VueJS application from the ground up.
  • Participate actively in architectural and design discussions to ensure new features are highly testable from day one.
  • Write production-quality code to create custom testing infrastructure, utilities, and tools that improve engineering efficiency.
  • Integrate your automated tests directly into our CI/CD pipelines to act as the definitive gatekeeper for production deployments.
  • Act as the primary advocate for software quality, mentoring engineers on testing best practices and strategies.
  • Investigate complex bugs, reproduce difficult edge cases, and collaborate closely with developers to implement lasting fixes.
  • Continuously monitor test execution, improve suite performance, and identify areas to expand our overall test coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in software development or test automation engineering
  • 3+ years of experience testing or developing within modern web architectures, preferably Ruby on Rails
  • 3+ years of experience interacting with and testing modern JavaScript frameworks, specifically VueJS
  • Experience architecting, building, and deploying end-to-end (E2E) automated testing frameworks from scratch
  • Strong understanding of relational databases to seed test data and validate complex state changes
  • Experience writing maintainable, production-quality code for test infrastructure, custom tooling, and automated suites
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Tell us an interesting animal fact in your application

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience with Ruby on Rails
  • Experience architecting user interfaces using Vue and Vuex
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience mentoring and developing other engineers
  • Experience building systems that integrate with production, manufacturing, or operational workflows
  • Familiarity with performance tuning, observability, and production monitoring

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer, phone, and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to move throughout an office and manufacturing environment as needed

Work Environment

  • This role is based remotely in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that requires consistent communication, organization, and coordination across cross-functional teams.
  • The position may require time spent in or around a manufacturing facility with exposure to moderate noise, moving equipment, and industrial conditions.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, & Vision coverage
  • Paid holidays + PTO
  • 401K with company match
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Paid parental leave
  • Short-term disability
  • Lunch provided daily
  • Flexible work/life balance
  • Employee discount on parts
