Job description

Home Energy Software Engineering Manager, Wireless Technologies & Ecosystems

Cupertino, California, United States Software and Services

At Apple, we are committed to leaving the world better than we found it. The Home Energy team is part of that effort — helping people understand, manage, and shift their home’s energy toward cleaner sources. Our work includes features like Grid Forecast, Clean Energy Charging, Clean Energy Guidance, Electricity Usage & Rates, and the EnergyKit developer framework introduced at WWDC. We are taking this work to the next level — and looking for a leader to take it there with us. The right leader has led engineering teams through multiple product cycles, shipped consumer products at Apple’s quality bar, and operates with confidence in cross‑org rooms with senior leadership.

Description

As Software Engineering Manager for Home Energy, you will lead an experienced team of engineers shipping cross‑platform energy features and growing EnergyKit into a category‑defining developer platform. You will partner closely with Apple’s server‑side energy team on partner integrations (e.g. utilities, appliance providers, OEMs), and represent Home Energy in cross‑functional collaboration spanning Design, Environment, Services, Privacy, Security, Legal and Software Engineering leadership. You will set technical direction, guide architecture and design, and drive execution from early development through product ship across Apple platforms. You will lead people, build partner alignment, and champion Home Energy’s strategic role across Apple, while staying hands‑on in design, development, and code review.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and grow our world‑class team of engineers building Home Energy features across Apple platforms; hire, develop, and define career growth paths
  • Set technical direction and architecture for client‑side Energy UX features and the EnergyKit framework
  • Drive annual WWDC and dot‑release delivery, including scoping, prioritization, schedules, end‑to‑end execution
  • Own quality, performance, reliability, and release readiness for energy features and APIs
  • Adopt modern AI‑assisted workflows across design, development, code review, and delivery to multiply team output
  • Partner with Apple’s server‑side energy team on external‑provider data pipelines, provider onboarding, and joint feature launches
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment with Design, Environment, Services, Privacy, Legal, and Software Engineering leadership; represent Home Energy in reviews
  • Hold Apple’s privacy and security bar for user energy data
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including Apple platform technologies (iOS/macOS frameworks, Swift/Objective‑C, Xcode)
  • 5+ years managing engineering teams that design and ship complex software systems
  • Track record of successfully launching high‑quality consumer products end‑to‑end
  • Demonstrated experience leading senior engineers and senior cross‑functional projects with tangible org‑level impact
  • Experience using modern developer tools, including AI‑assisted workflows
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading and timely delivery of consumer products from concept through launch on a recurring annual release cadence
  • Experience working with utility, automotive, or energy‑industry partners
  • Experience growing developer‑facing platforms or SDKs
  • Software architecture and system design experience across client, system services, and cloud integration
  • Ability to make forward progress in the face of constraints and ambiguity
  • Analytical and proactive attitude
