Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Google Distributed Cloud is a portfolio of fully managed hardware and software solutions which extends Google Cloud’s infrastructure and services to the edge and into your data centers. In this role, you will be responsible for building networking solutions and networking abstractions for these environments and drive solutions integration and validation efforts collaborating with Partners and Customers. Additionally, you will be focusing on building kubevirt networking solution, bootstrapping networking for new GDC platforms, enhancing our feature‑reach portfolio of security and services built on top of GDC Network Gateway, consolidating Dataplane‑v2 support among all GDC environments where Kubernetes runs.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop an engineering team by shaping career growth, managing sprint velocity, and allocating resources to balance immediate customer commitments with long‑term architectural health.
  • Direct the roadmap, strategy, and execution for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC)-hosted networking virtualization solutions, collaborating with platform, GDC, Anthos networking teams, and adjacent stakeholders.
  • Guide the design and development of network connectivity solutions involving both data plane and control plane elements for hybrid and multi‑cloud environments.
  • Direct the design and delivery of network virtualization solutions tailored for container and virtual machine (VM) workloads operating on Kubernetes platforms.
  • Advocate operational excellence by assisting external GDC customers and resolving issues within production clusters.
