Are you a driven Civil Engineer with a passion for shaping the future of transportation infrastructure? Digital Engineering (DE) is looking for a skilled Project Engineer to join our growing Transportation team. In this role, you’ll help plan, design, and deliver roadway, highway, and multimodal projects that improve mobility, enhance safety, and strengthen the communities where we work, live, and play. DE’s Transportation division is dedicated to serving the communities in which we work by alleviating traffic and improving safety for all modes of transportation. We improve transportation infrastructure by providing planning, modeling & analysis, engineering design, traffic engineering, construction administration, resident inspection, and program management for transportation projects across the Gulf Coast.

THE ROLE

The Project Engineer is responsible for performing design, bidding, construction administration, and program management tasks to support the successful execution and completion of transportation projects. This full-time position may be based in any of our Louisiana offices - Kenner, Baton Rouge, or Mandeville - or in our Waveland, MS office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.); if not currently licensed in Louisiana, must obtain LA P.E. within six months of hire
  • 2-3 years of experience in highway and roadway design
  • Prior experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D is strongly preferred and will be given preferential consideration.
  • Ability to maintain valid driver's license
  • Working knowledge of transportation design principles including AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures
  • Proficiency with word processing software, spreadsheet software, design software, and standard internet applications
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Consult with clients to determine functional, spatial, and programmatic requirements of projects, including estimated costs and construction timelines
  • Perform engineering calculations and assists in preparing construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project documents
  • Collaborate with CADD and administrative staff to ensure accurate and complete project deliverables
  • Support construction administration tasks, including shop drawing review, periodic site inspections, and review of contractor pay requests
  • Lead project tasks and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor project budgets to prevent over‑expenditures and ensure efficient use of resources
  • Obtain necessary project approvals and permits
  • Demonstrate strong self‑motivation, initiative, and teamwork
  • Read and interpret complex instructions, correspondence, engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge of engineering principles relevant to project work
  • Travel to project and client sites throughout service area, and to other DE offices as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager
