ABOUT THIS POSITION

Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Use this position if company does not breakout software development positions such as Software Engineer (Applications) or Software Engineer (Systems) and / or is involved in full stack development. Software development engineers using common development methodologies including Waterfall and Agile should be matched to our software development engineering roles. Employees focused on ensuring products (including websites) and hosted networks are designed and developed to be cyber-safe and compliant are typically matched to one of our software development engineering roles.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable software applications and services using modern programming languages and frameworks.

  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and actionable development plans.

  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code adhering to Waystar's coding standards and best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high code quality.

  • Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Waystar's software development processes, tools, and infrastructure.

  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the team, fostering a culture of learning and growth.

  • Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) to ensure software reliability and stability.

  • Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to enhance user experience.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating and recommending new approaches and tools.

  • Contribute to the architectural design of new features and systems, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software development, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software.

  • Expertise in at least one modern programming language such as C#, Java, Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming principles.

  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).

  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and associated services.

  • Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.

  • Solid understanding of software development best practices, including agile methodologies, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and test-driven development (TDD).

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

  • Knowledge of healthcare IT standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) or experience in the healthcare industry is a plus.
