Software Engineer Ev Charging information

What does a software engineer do in the EV charging industry?

A Software Engineer in the EV charging industry designs, develops, and maintains software that powers electric vehicle charging stations and related infrastructure. Their work involves creating applications for user interfaces, backend systems, network communications, and integration with energy management platforms. They may also focus on ensuring security, scalability, and interoperability of charging solutions. This role often requires collaboration with hardware engineers and other stakeholders to deliver seamless charging experiences for users.

What are the typical challenges a software engineer faces when developing EV charging solutions?

A Software Engineer in the EV charging field often encounters challenges such as integrating with diverse hardware platforms, ensuring interoperability with various charging standards, and maintaining secure, reliable communication between chargers and backend systems. Additionally, working in this sector requires staying updated with evolving industry protocols and regulations, which can impact software design and deployment. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including hardware engineers, network specialists, and product managers—is essential to deliver robust and scalable solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software engineer in EV charging, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer in EV Charging, you need strong programming skills (such as Python, Java, or C++), a solid understanding of electrical systems, and typically a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with EV charging protocols (like OCPP), embedded systems, cloud platforms, and experience with relevant certifications (e.g., OCPP certification) are highly valuable. Problem-solving ability, collaboration, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure reliable, scalable, and innovative EV charging solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

What is the difference between Software Engineer Ev Charging vs Software Engineer Electric Vehicle Infrastructure?

Company Overview:
MN8 Energy is one of the largest independent solar energy and energy storage owner-operators in the U.S., serving enterprise customers with clean energy and complementary solutions, such as battery storage and EV Charging, to enable an electrified, decarbonized world. Originally founded inside of Goldman Sachs in 2017, our fleet has grown to nearly 4-gigawatts of solar, including 875 projects across 28 states, and over 270 megawatts of battery storage projects, with each project tailored to achieve the bold decarbonization targets and goals of our more than 200 blue-chip customers. MN8 is headquartered in New York with offices in Texas, Florida and Madrid.
Position Overview:
MN8 is looking for a Procurement Senior Analyst to support purchases in Energy Infrastructure projects.
As the Procurement Senior Analyst, you will:

  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships to support project execution, business objectives, long-term value creation, and supply chain resilience.
  • Monitor supplier performance, quality, delivery schedules, contractual obligations, and commercial commitments, escalating risks and proposing mitigation actions where appropriate.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for contracts, purchase orders, and commercial agreements, working closely with Legal, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage procurement activities from purchase requisition through purchase order issuance, contract execution, supplier onboarding, and ongoing procurement support.
  • Conduct market intelligence activities, including supplier market mapping, pricing trends, lead-time analysis, supply chain risk assessments, financial analysis, and ESG evaluations.
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and recommend new suppliers through market research, competitive analysis, technical and commercial alignment, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Support cross-functional project teams by providing commercial guidance, procurement strategy, supply chain insights, and market intelligence throughout project development and execution.
  • Maintain complete and auditable procurement records, sourcing documentation, commercial evaluations, approval evidence, supplier files, and contract documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Support the development and execution of the Procurement vision with and through stakeholder communities across the business.
  • Develop innovative and sustainable sourcing solutions to identify and mitigate supplier, commercial, and supply chain risk while driving long-term end-to-end value.
  • Create, maintain, and improve supplier data repositories and reporting tools to support procurement visibility, supplier intelligence, and decision-making

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, contracts, commercial management, or a related function.
  • Experience in renewable energy, EV charging infrastructure, energy storage, electrical equipment, construction, utilities, EPC projects, or energy services.
  • Experience negotiating complex supply agreements, master service agreements, major equipment purchase orders, or service agreements.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and commercial evaluation skills, with the ability to translate data into practical recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Legal, Finance, Engineering, Operations, and business teams.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in business English, both written and spoken.
  • Delivery-driven mindset, ownership, accountability, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

How we set you up for success:
