Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, CivicEye delivers modern, easy-to-use cloud software for law enforcement, prosecutors, and court personnel that enhances daily workflows and improves community outcomes. The company combines a deep understanding of the criminal justice system with an unrivaled technology platform, bringing next-generation technology to law enforcement, prosecutors, and courts nationwide.

CivicEye is experiencing explosive growth, and in conjunction with that growth, the company is looking for a fun, energetic, and multi-dimensional Software Engineer to assist with application development and implementation. This mid-level developer will have broad experiences in various disciplines, including coding, debugging, deploying, mentoring and coaching other developers, and maintaining code in production. This integral team member must have experience writing code from scratch, testing their own and others’ code, solving complicated problems, working in a team environment, strong verbal and written skills, exercising appropriate discretion and professionalism, and being proactive and self-motivated. The ideal candidate should also have ample experience working in an Agile environment with a Product organization and all the ceremonies including ticket review, retrospective meetings, sprint kickoffs, and sprint planning.

The Software Engineer will support the development team and Tech Lead to enhance and maintain the company’s platform. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enhance systems and processes to streamline coding work
  • Participate in project teams or specific initiatives to drive desired outcomes
  • Collaborate with other Engineers
  • Write code from scratch
  • Debug their own and others’ code
  • Review Pull Requests
  • Contribute to meetings to align around Agile practices and work planning
  • Identify and deliver solutions needed to complete development tasks in a modern web platform
  • Solve complex problems
  • Develop and recommend approaches including analyzing the tradeoffs for alternative technology solutions
  • Serves as an ambassador to our company through direct contact with clients, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Technical
    • Strong programming expertise in React, Node.js, and TypeScript, or solid background in .NET or Java
    • Excellent documentation capabilities using Confluence, Notion, or similar platforms
    • Experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS or GCP
    • Proficiency with modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies
    • Strong understanding of microservices, APIs, and distributed systems
    • Experience with database design, optimization, and programmatic manipulation (SQL and NoSQL)
    • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes preferred)
    • Proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and scalable code while enforcing best practices through code reviews and mentorship
    • Knowledge of system security, scalability, and performance optimization

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent education or significant experience (e.g graduated from Bootcamp or self-taught with 3+ years of experience freelancing or via full-time employment)
  • Minimum 3 years of development experience in a fast-paced, team environment

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Experience operating in an Agile production environment
  • Life-long learner and eager to try new things
