Robotic Machining Cell Technician (CNC Automation)
Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Robotic Machining Cell Technician (CNC Automation) to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC-controlled machining robot cell and support CNC 5-axis milling operations as applicable.
- Perform setup, changeover, and operation of equipment using industry-standard software and internal Aurora systems.
- Follow work instructions, planning sequences, drawings, and specifications to produce quality hardware/parts on schedule.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
- Validate product conformance using measurement tools (e.g., calipers, pin gauges, basic inspection equipment) and document results.
- Complete required manufacturing documentation accurately (paperwork, quality records, etc.).
- Interface effectively with NC Programming, Engineering, and Quality to resolve issues, clarify requirements, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment/process issues and support preventive maintenance activities (per OEM procedures and site standards).
- Apply lean manufacturing thinking and continuous improvement practices: identify repeat issues, capture data, and propose solutions.
- Use standard shop/hand tools as needed (e.g., deburr tools, drills, sanders, angle grinders) while maintaining FOD/housekeeping expectations.
- Adhere to all safety, security, and PPE requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Education/experience typically acquired through basic education (e.g. High School diploma/GED) and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience (e.g. vocational school/Associate+2 years' related work, Bachelor, etc.).
- Working knowledge of GD&T fundamentals and ability to interpret engineering requirements.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints/drawings and written work instructions.
- Comfortable with basic measurement methods used to verify conformance.
- Computer proficiency (PC use in a production environment; ability to learn new software and follow digital workflows).
- Clear written and verbal communication and ability to collaborate with Engineering and Quality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by production.
- Must be a US Person.
Preferred Requirements
- Associate degree in a technical discipline or relevant military technical training, trade school, vocational training, etc.
- Prior experience operating or supporting CNC machining (robotic machining cells, 3-axis/5-axis mills, routers, or similar).
- Stronger depth in GD&T, quality systems exposure (e.g., AS9100), and disciplined documentation habits.
- Experience with composite and/or metal manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to NC/automation software or related tools (e.g., CAM/verification tools such as Mastercam/Vericut or similar - training can be provided depending on baseline).
- Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset (lean, problem-solving, root cause, standard work).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on a manufacturing floor and wear required PPE.
- Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, and climb stairs as required.
- Ability to lift/transport up to 35 pounds.
- Work is performed onsite in Columbus, MS.
Salary Range (Annualized USD)
  • Minimum Range: $52,000.00 to $92,000.00
  • Maximum Range: $61,000.00 to $108,000.00
