They work with various programming languages and technologies to create software solutions that meet user or business needs. Their responsibilities often include writing code, debugging issues, collaborating with other team members, and ensuring software quality and performance. Software Engineers may also participate in planning, code reviews, and updating documentation to support ongoing software projects.

What is the difference between Software Development Software Engineer vs Software Developer?

AspectSoftware Development Software EngineerSoftware Developer
CredentialsBachelor's in CS or related field, certifications optionalBachelor's in CS or related field, certifications optional
Work EnvironmentCollaborative teams, Agile/Scrum settings, cross-functional projectsIndividual or team projects, coding-focused tasks
Industry UsageUsed across tech companies, startups, and large enterprisesCommon in software firms, tech startups, and freelance work
Search & Comparison IntentOften compared for roles involving system design and architectureTypically searched for coding and application development roles

While both roles involve software creation, a Software Development Software Engineer often focuses on system design, architecture, and collaborative project management, whereas a Software Developer primarily concentrates on coding and implementing software solutions. The engineer role may require broader technical knowledge and involvement in the development lifecycle, making it suitable for those interested in both design and coding aspects of software projects.

How do Software Development Software Engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Software Development Software Engineers often work closely with product managers, designers, and quality assurance teams to deliver well-rounded solutions. Collaboration usually involves attending regular stand-up meetings, participating in sprint planning, and conducting code reviews. Effective communication and a willingness to incorporate feedback from various stakeholders are key to ensuring project goals are met and potential issues are identified early. Building strong relationships with colleagues in different roles can also streamline the development process and foster a positive team environment.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those with extensive experience, expertise in high-demand skills like machine learning or cloud computing, and working at large tech companies or startups, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Compensation often includes base salary, bonuses, and stock options, particularly in competitive markets or leadership roles.

Can a software engineer be a software developer?

A software engineer and a software developer often have overlapping roles, and many professionals perform both functions. Typically, a software engineer applies engineering principles to design and build software systems, while a software developer focuses on writing and implementing code. The terms are sometimes used interchangeably depending on the company or project, but both roles require programming skills and knowledge of development tools.

Will AI replace developers in 2026?

As a software development engineer, AI is expected to augment coding and automate repetitive tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace developers by 2026. Human skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and understanding user needs remain essential in software creation and maintenance. Developers will need to adapt by learning AI tools and focusing on complex, high-level tasks.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Software engineers in senior or specialized roles at large technology companies or in high-demand sectors can earn $500,000 or more annually, often including base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills in areas like machine learning or cloud computing, and often involves working in competitive, high-paying environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Development Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Development Software Engineer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), problem-solving abilities, and typically a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and knowledge of software development methodologies (such as Agile or Scrum) are commonly required. Strong collaboration, communication, and adaptability are essential soft skills for working effectively in team environments and responding to project changes. These skills and qualities are crucial for building reliable, maintainable software and contributing to successful, dynamic development projects.

Job description

Do procurement. Like your mission depends on it.

At Globality, we build agentic technology that transforms how global enterprises source goods and services - autonomously, at scale, and without the inefficiencies that have defined procurement for decades. Our platform interprets purchase intent, generates sourcing materials, evaluates suppliers, and executes negotiation strategies without manual intervention. The interfaces you build are the surface through which that intelligence becomes usable.

The Role

Globality is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help grow our test infrastructure and tooling efforts across the entire Globality ecosystem. As a SDET, you'll work in a key position where your efforts will have a noticeable impact on both the company and product. In addition to the requirements below, successful candidates and team members will share a passion for high-quality software, strong engineering principles, and methodical problem-solving skills.

What You Will Do

  • Help design and implement next-level testing infrastructure and tooling for our Globality platform
  • Work on test infrastructure issues related to engineering stakeholders you engage with, and the entire Globality product stack
  • Develop working knowledge of the entire Globality application stack including tests at all levels and purposes. (Levels: Unit, Integration, and End-to-end; Purposes: Functional, Scale/Load, Performance)
  • Identify, share, and nurture the adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability, and maintainability in collaboration with the wider Engineering organization.
  • Analyze complex software systems and collaborate with others to improve the overall design, testability, and quality
  • Strive for the fastest feedback possible. Test parallelization should be a top priority. You see distributed systems as a core challenge of good test automation infrastructure
  • Track and communicate test results in a timely, effective, and automated manner
  • Above all else: Protect the health of the Production environment

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining complex software systems using production-grade engineering practices
  • Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and supporting test automation frameworks and tooling
  • Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable, efficient, and rapid software delivery
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in distributed teams and communicate asynchronously

Nice to Have

  • Experience with testing frameworks and tools such as JUnit, Pytest, Cucumber (BDD), and Cypress
  • Familiarity with build and dependency management tools such as Maven and Gradle
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, CircleCI, and Drone
  • Experience developing and testing APIs using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC
  • Experience in integration and performance testing
  • Understanding of modern software quality, automation, and release engineering best practices

Why Globality

  • We're early to a massive shift. Enterprise procurement is one of the last major functions to be reshaped by AI-and it's happening now. This isn't incremental optimization. We're rebuilding how decisions get made and how trillions of dollars move through global enterprises.
  • The bar is high-and so is the talent. This team has built, run, and advised some of the world's most sophisticated organizations. We care about outcomes, not titles. The people who thrive here take ownership, move fast, and follow through.
  • You'll have real impact. This role is about creating a playbook, not maintaining. You'll define strategy, build from zero to one, and see your work translate directly into business impact.
  • We build together. In person. We're in the Bozeman office four days a week because the best ideas-and the fastest decisions-happen face to face. One day is yours to work wherever you're most effective.

The anticipated annual pay scale for this position is $90,000-$110,000. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Globality's total compensation package for employees. This information is provided per the California Equal Pay Act. We are an equal opportunity employer and a participant in the E-Verify program. We believe diversity makes teams better and that discrimination based on race, gender, or anything else is self-defeating.
