Job description

Land Development Practice

Through an integrated approach to all stages of land development, we guide clients through the entire life cycle of a project, beginning with due diligence, initial site planning and entitlement approvals, through final engineering, construction management and surveying.

Our engineering team collaborates with in-house planning and surveying professionals to deliver quality service that achieves our clients' strategic development goals. We understand that land development engineering for commercial, residential and public use requires a creative, cost-effective, schedule-driven approach.

What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking a Project/Technical Manager to join the team in our Moon Township, PA office as part of our growing Land Development group within the Land Development and Infrastructure Practice. The successful candidate will plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that the goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed timeframes and funding parameters. They will work within an interdisciplinary team including civil engineers, surveyors, GIS professionals, architects, MEPS+FP, estimators, department leaders, and quality design staff to ensure each design deliverable is coordinated and meets our clients' requirements and expectations.

A Hybrid working arrangement is available within the Pittsburgh, PA area.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and strengthen client relationships to deliver exceptional service and project success
  • Lead project planning, including scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and execution strategies
  • Develop and drive Project Management Plans (PMPs) for complex, multidisciplinary projects
  • Lead, mentor, and empower project teams by clearly defining roles, responsibilities, and expectations
  • Secure and manage project resources to support successful delivery
  • Serve as a hands-on project leader, providing both technical expertise and team leadership
  • Assign and oversee design work, offer technical guidance, and ensure quality deliverables
  • Keep projects on track by managing schedules, budgets, resources, and performance
  • Ensure project execution aligns with company standards, client expectations, and quality requirements
  • Participate in design and quality reviews, providing recommendations that strengthen project outcomes
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, project managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to resolve challenges and drive results
  • Monitor project financial performance and implement effective project controls throughout the project life cycle
  • Act as the primary client contact, fostering strong partnerships and clear communication
  • Mentor and develop staff to support career growth and team success
  • Create, interpret, and review 2D and 3D engineering and design documents
  • Champion quality and compliance by promoting best practices and adherence to project management standards

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 7-10 years of civil design and project management experience with a track record or delivering complex projects
  • Pennsylvania PE license (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams within various locations, subconsultants, project budgets, schedules, and change management
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective client and team relationships
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with land development, local/state project permitting, federal projects, or abandoned mine lands/mine permitting highly preferred

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position $125,000 - $150,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
