You collaborate with upper-level management and your developers to make sure that new and existing software applications meet business objectives.

What does a software development manager do?

A Software Development Manager oversees teams of software engineers to ensure successful planning, development, and delivery of software projects. They coordinate project timelines, allocate resources, and facilitate communication between team members and stakeholders. To thrive as a Software Development Manager, you need a solid background in software engineering, leadership experience, and usually a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira or Trello), version control systems (such as Git), and sometimes certifications like PMP or Scrum Master are highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to motivate and mentor teams are critical soft skills. Job description

At WellSky, we are building impactful software solutions that prioritize end-user efficiency and shape the future of healthcare. Because we operate across multiple business units and product lines, our engineering teams tackle a diverse range of exciting challenges-from enhancing established applications to building brand-new, AI-native platforms.
We are looking for collaborative, growth-minded Software Engineers to join us. Whether your background is in backend systems, modern frontend development, or full-stack delivery, there is a team here where you can grow your skills and make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Build & Maintain: Develop robust features and components for WellSky solutions, emphasizing code quality, performance, and scalability across the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with solution managers, designers, and senior engineers to gather requirements, propose solutions, and deliver high-impact features that align with business goals.
  • Troubleshoot & Optimize: Identify and resolve technical issues in development and production environments, debugging applications and performance tuning to improve system scalability.
  • Ensure Code Quality: Prepare technical documentation, actively participate in code reviews, and adhere to industry best practices and internal coding standards.
  • Test for Reliability: Develop and maintain a robust set of automated tests (including unit, integration, and performance testing) to validate software quality.
  • Embrace AI: Leverage AI-assisted development tools and platforms as an integral part of your daily workflow to streamline tasks, enhance decision-making, and drive data-informed outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 2-4 years of relevant work experience in software development.

Preferred Qualifications:
We operate across a wide variety of tech stacks to solve complex problems. You do NOT need experience with all of these to be a great fit. If you have hands-on experience in a few of these areas and a solid understanding of software development principles, our recruiting team will work with you to find the WellSky team that best aligns with your background!
  • Backend: Object-oriented languages such as C#/.NET, Java, or Python.
  • Frontend: Modern JavaScript frameworks like React or Angular, and TypeScript.
  • Databases: Relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Infrastructure & Tools: Linux environments, cloud platforms, Docker, and Git-based CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Methodologies: Strong working knowledge of Agile development and the SDLC process.
  • AI Tools: Hands-on use of developer copilots or AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) in day-to-day work.
  • Domain Knowledge: Previous experience in the healthcare domain.

Job Expectations:
  • Must be able to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed
  • Must work in accordance with applicable security policies and procedures to safeguard company and client information
