Job description

We are looking for a customer-obsessed Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE 3) to join our Engineering Services team. In this role you will lead the design and delivery of cloud-native production-ready software and infrastructure that our customers integrate into their own offerings. You'll own team-level architecture, drive technical strategy, and build the repeatable, scalable solutions that transform how ProServe delivers value - while conveying Amazon development practices to our customers.
The ideal candidate is a technical leader who loves to learn and invent

As members of AWS Professional Services, we are not stewards of a single AWS service but of the entire AWS platform - keeping abreast of the ever-widening stream of platform improvements and new services. The candidate should have strong system design and architecture skills, deep experience making software design and implementation trade-offs, and the ability to lead projects that span multiple engineers. Experience with modern cloud-native applications, distributed systems at scale, and DevOps practices are highly applicable.
Key job responsibilities
- Own team-level architecture, providing system-wide design guidance and ensuring solutions are well-designed, extensible, performant, and secure
- Lead projects requiring the work of multiple engineers; drive technical strategy and make one-way-door technical decisions with sound judgment
- Design and deliver working software systems spanning the full lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Set and drive adoption of engineering best practices on the team - code organization, clarity, simplicity, error handling, documentation, and operations
- Solve complex problems with multiple risks and roadblocks using solutions that are as simple as possible; clearly explain problems to others in simple, concise terms
- Balance speed of delivery with long-term architectural requirements; proactively simplify code and resolve architecture deficiencies
- Build consensus across the team and related teams when confronted with differing technical viewpoints
- Actively coach and mentor multiple engineers; grow the team through recruiting, assessing, and providing career guidance
- Communicate technical designs and decisions effectively in writing for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ensure your team has strong operational practices: alarms, telemetry, runbooks, and retrospective/COE processes
- Obtain/maintain AWS Certifications
- Occasional travel to customer sites (~20%)
