Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.

We are seeking a Director for theTeraWave projectto build and lead a team developing software for optical and RF communication payload flight systems, user terminals, and gateway terminals. This executive will define software architecture from prototyping through to high-volume production for advanced 6 Tbps satellite communications. The role requiresstrong leadership in developing space-grade software working in collaboration with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:Develop long-term software strategies and roadmaps for the TeraWave constellation.
  • Build and Lead:Recruit, structure, and mentor a high-performing software engineering team responsible for flight and terminal software.
  • Architect Software:Lead the design, development, and validation of embedded software for optical and RF communications between satellites and satellites and the ground for the payload on the satellite and the ground systems.
  • Ensure Mission Success:Collaborate with hardware, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure software reliability and compliance with space-grade standards.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience software development, with at least 6 years leading technical teams.
  • 4+ years of experience inspace flight avionicsorsoftware development.
  • Proven success bringing complex connected software from prototype to deployment in production.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in software or electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with satellite communications and bus software.
  • Experience with software and data security.

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $233,934.00 - $327,506.55 WA applicants is $233,934.00 - $327,506.55

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
