Day in the Life

The Project Manager will report to the Construction Manager and is responsible for the preparation of cost estimates for conventionally bid projects. This role includes project coordination and management functions for MTO and municipal asphalt paving projects.

Responsibilities
  • Review tender documents, specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and cost analyses.
  • Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid submissions.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities during the bidding phase.
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
  • Manage projects from award through closeout.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, production, and profitability.
  • Manage change orders, claims, and contract documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Track project financial performance and prepare monthly forecasting reports.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Promote a strong safety culture consistent with Miller and Georgian Paving standards.
  • Ensure projects comply with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in asphalt paving, road construction, heavy civil construction, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Experience estimating and managing municipal or MTO-related construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract documents, specifications, and tendering processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
  • Experience with municipal infrastructure, road reconstruction, and asphalt paving projects an asset
  • Familiarity with HeavyBid, B2W, Bid2Win, HeavyJob, HCSS, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar software an asset
  • Understanding of OPSS standards and Ontario construction specifications an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Compensation Data

Targeting a starting base salary between $101,000 to $127,000 per annum
