Primary Responsibilities 

  • Develop safe engineering solutions through design, problem analysis, and interpreting specifications for medium complexity utilities projects. 
  • Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets by proposing plan changes, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules 
  • Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, exercising judgment in information selection, and recommending safe engineering designs 
  • Contribute to CIMA+'s engineering practices by conducting studies, developing technical standards, exercising judgment in information evaluation, recommending designs, and providing guidance to other engineers 
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by defining engineering scope with clients, establishing design criteria, approving technical documentation, and assessing/reporting progress against standards and objectives for safe, quality, budget-compliant, and timely project completion 
  • Design overhead line structures and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment
  • Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA+’s practices 
  • Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities 
  • Provide signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record per EGBC and CIMA+’s practices 
  • Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required 
  • Perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for structures associated with transmission underground cables (including potheads, concrete vaults, cable duct banks) and transmission submarine cables (including terminations and potheads) 
  • Apply loads, design criteria, seismic analysis per regulatory and industry standards, considering associated civil, mechanical, electrical systems like foundations, lightning protection, conductors, and hardware 
Qualifications
  • University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience and a history of working in Transmission projects.
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC/ Canada
  • Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards 
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) 
  • Excellent communication abilities in English – written and verbal 
  • Experience in design tasks including scope, schedule and cost control 
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence
