Job Title: Senior Optimization Developer
Location: Chicago, IL 60606 (Hybrid) - 4 days per month onsite
Durations: 6-12+ Months with possible extension and conversions.
Job Overview:
This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in Operations Research, Mathematical Optimization, and Software Development who have experience building large-scale optimization and decision-support solutions.
The selected candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, software engineers, and operations research teams to design, develop, and implement optimization models that improve airline network planning and scheduling decisions.
Required:
  • Experience in: Applied Operations Research, Mathematical Optimization, Decision Analysis, Simulation & Statistics and Stochastic Modeling.
  • experience with Large-scale Optimization, Nonlinear Optimization & Mixed Integer Programming (MIP).
  • Strong experience with commercial optimization software-IBM ILOG CPLEX, Gurobi, LINDO, Xpress
  • Experience in Concept - Mathematical Programming, Operations Research, Optimization Algorithms, Decision Support Systems, Simulation Modeling, Stochastic Modeling.
  • Programming Language: Julia, C, Python, Java, JavaScript.
  • Statistical Tools: R
Preferred:
  • Experience working in the transportation, airline, logistics, or supply chain industry.
  • Experience with airline scheduling or network planning optimization.
  • Knowledge of Java and JavaScript development.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop large-scale optimization and decision-support applications.
  • Build mathematical programming, optimization, simulation, and statistical models to solve complex business problems.
  • Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into optimization solutions.
  • Develop and enhance optimization algorithms using commercial optimization solvers.
  • Implement nonlinear, mixed-integer, and large-scale optimization models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business, engineering, and operations research.
  • Maintain software engineering best practices including version control, packaging, testing, and release management.
  • Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code in supported programming languages.
  • Perform data analysis and validation using SQL and statistical tools.
  • Support production deployment and ongoing optimization improvements

Pay Range: $60-70/hr. The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
