Timken Power Systems, Philadelphia Gear brand, is seeking a Service Center Engineer at the Birmingham, AL regional service center.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implement customer's requirements for the repair, modification, or upgrade of customer's equipment 
  • Evaluate the condition of equipment and determine which components are re-usable, repairable or must be replaced 
  • Define the scope of work needed to return equipment back to full working condition 
  • Perform failure analysis and create technical reports for customers 
  • Measure and reverse engineer non-Philadelphia Gear components 
  • Provide calculations for manufacture of new gears or repair of existing gears 
  • Design, specify, and create detail drawings of components and assemblies 
  • Create bills of material for new and repair orders 
  • Build job travelers that lay out the order of operations and describe the work needed to carry out the repairs or modifications of gears, components, and equipment 
  • Assist in technical training of shop personnel 
  • Provide technical support to suppliers, customers, field service, and customer service 
  • Support quality assurance activities such as identifying and documenting nonconforming material, reviewing supplier quality documentation, and supporting calibration activities 
  • Help maintain and support site quality management system including ISO certification 
  • Help maintain & support our ISO certification and quality system.

Technical/ Functional Skills:

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D drawing software preferred, or other similar CAD design software  
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and organization 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software 
  • Ability to interact with all levels of customers and internal support teams 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in design of mechanical drives; co-op and internship experience accepted
  • US citizenship required or otherwise legally authorized to work in an ITAR-regulated environment.
