Web Developer Intern

Advantage Design Group

Jacksonville, FL • On-site, Remote

$17.75 - $23.50/hr

Full-time, Internship

Posted 11 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain features in C# and .NET on the production platform with code review.

  • Work on front end interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

  • Write queries and learn about the data behind the product in SQL Server.

Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Write code that four and a half million people will actually use.

Advantage builds the platforms that welcome new students and employees at more than four hundred colleges, universities, and organizations, including Harvard, UCLA, and Florida State.

Most internships hand you a side project nobody will ship. This one does not. You will work on the platform our clients use every day, alongside the developers who built it, in an office where you can turn your chair around and ask a question.

It is built as a path to a full-time job. The first level of our career framework is Developer I, and this internship is the on ramp to it. We cannot promise an offer, but we hire with that outcome in mind.

WHAT YOU WOULD WORK ON

Real work, reviewed by people who care about your growth

  • Build and maintain features in C# and .NET on our production platform, with real code review.
  • Front end work in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript on interfaces students actually see.
  • Work in Umbraco, the content system behind our platform. Nobody arrives knowing it.
  • Write queries and learn the data behind the product, in SQL Server.
  • Learn accessibility properly. We hold our product to WCAG 2.2 AA.

WHAT WE NEED

Four things, and we will teach you the rest

  • You are writing C# and .NET now, in coursework, projects, or a previous internship.
  • Working front end fundamentals: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Comfort in Visual Studio, or a willingness to get comfortable quickly.
  • You ask questions when you are stuck. This matters more than any language on your resume.

Nice to have, not expected: Umbraco or any CMS, SQL Server, TypeScript, Razor, MVC, Git, or anything you have shipped, even if it broke.

IS THIS THE RIGHT FIT?

We would rather be clear now than three interviews from now

You will probably love this role if

  • You want to work on software real people use, not a training exercise.
  • You learn fastest sitting near people who are better than you.
  • You want a real shot at a full time job when the internship ends.

It may not be the right fit if

  • You are looking for remote work. This role is on site, and that is most of how you will learn.
  • You want only new technology. Some of what you touch supports hundreds of institutions today.
  • You are still exploring whether you like software.

PAY AND LOGISTICS

Paid, credited, mentored, and equipped

Paid, with the rate discussed on our first call. Academic credit toward your major if your program allows it.

Jacksonville, Florida. On site and full time. You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

You will be paired with a developer who owns your ramp, and you will have real access to our Director of Technology and Director of Engineering, who bring more than forty five years of combined consulting and Fortune 500 experience.

Structured onboarding, funded training, current equipment, and a stocked break room.

HOW TO APPLY

We would love to meet you

Application to hire is usually 3 to 4 weeks. You will hear back either way, and promptly. We remember what it was like to wait.
