Job Title: Software Engineer
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Software Engineerwith our client located in San Jose, CA.
Job Description:
  • We're looking for a junior software engineer who can help build production applications powered by agentic AI.
  • You'll work primarily in Python, designing and integrating APIs and shipping features that incorporate LLM capabilities into real software systems.

Job Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field - or equivalent practical experience
  • 0-2 years of software engineering experience; internships, co-ops, and substantial personal/open-source projects count
  • Solid Python fundamentals: writing clean, testable code, working with common tooling (git, virtual environments, debugging), and reading others' code
  • Experience building or integrating with REST APIs, e.g., experience in designing endpoints (FastAPI, Flask, Django), consuming third-party APIs, handling authentication, pagination, and/or error cases
  • Basic software engineering hygiene: version control, code review, writing tests, and working in a team workflow
  • Familiarity with agentic AI concepts - tool/function calling, prompt chaining, or agent loops - demonstrated through coursework, hackathons, personal projects, or work experience. Exposure to frameworks like LangGraph, LangChain, or similar is a strong plus
  • Some hands-on experience calling LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models) as part of a larger application Bonus
  • Exposure to databases (SQL or NoSQL), caching, or message queues
  • Experience with async/concurrent programming in Python
  • Familiarity with RAG concepts: embeddings, vector databases, retrieval pipelines
