Software Contract information

What is a software contract?

Software contracts are legally binding agreements that define the terms and conditions under which software is developed, licensed, or used. These contracts typically outline the rights and responsibilities of both parties, including payment terms, deliverables, intellectual property ownership, support, maintenance, and confidentiality clauses. They help protect both software providers and clients by ensuring clarity and minimizing disputes. Common types include software development agreements, licensing agreements, and maintenance contracts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software contract manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Contract Manager, you need expertise in contract law, software licensing, negotiation, and compliance, usually grounded in a legal or business degree. Familiarity with contract management systems (CMS), e-signature tools, and legal research databases is typically required. Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills help build effective relationships and mitigate risk. These competencies ensure contracts are structured to protect company interests, minimize legal exposure, and maximize value from software agreements.

What are typical challenges faced by professionals working in software contract roles, and how can they effectively manage these challenges?

Professionals in software contract roles often face challenges such as managing multiple client expectations, ensuring clear communication of project requirements, and adapting quickly to new codebases or technologies. Time management is crucial, as contract work may involve juggling several projects with overlapping deadlines. Building strong client relationships and setting clear deliverables from the outset can help mitigate misunderstandings and scope creep. Staying organized and maintaining up-to-date documentation are also key practices for success in this dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Whether its construction, solar, agriculture, or something new, we deliver technologies that enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency. With our core values of Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, Autonomy and Growth guiding everything we do, we're shaping the future of automation in dynamic markets.
ASI is expanding its teams to support its current ramp-up across development work, customer projects, and product deployments. This is a full-time W-2 contract role.
The selected candidate will interview with ASI and work as an integrated member of the ASI team. W-2 employment, payroll, and benefits will be administered through one of ASI's staffing partners.
As an Embedded Software Engineer IV, you will lead feature development and systems integration for embedded software operating on autonomous robotic vehicles. You bring 5-7 years of embedded C/C++ experience to complex vehicle control, actuator, and sensor challenges, working independently across the full development lifecycle from requirements through fielded support. Your depth in real-time systems and clean code practice raises the quality bar for the team around you.
Responsibilities
  • Lead feature development for embedded applications on autonomous robotic vehicle platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex defects across vehicle control, actuator, and perception sensor systems.
  • Drive systems engineering participation to ensure robust software integration across hardware and software stacks.
  • Write clean, reusable C and C++ code following SOLID principles and established design patterns.
  • Build and maintain unit, integration, and system simulation tests with a test-first approach.
  • Contribute to continuous refactoring and maintain disciplined use of distributed version control.
  • Support fielded systems and lead collaboration with engineering teams on integration challenges.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years designing and implementing embedded real-time software systems using C/C++.
  • Strong familiarity with large multithreaded embedded applications running on an RTOS.
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, TCP, UDP, SPI, or RS232.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2 or sensor interfacing including GPS, LiDAR, RADAR, or ultrasonics.
  • Experience with Agile development, device drivers, or flash programming tools a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment continuously.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information in person, via phone, and through electronic means.
  • Ability to traverse office, lab, data center, and field environments as required.
