What is a software assistant?

Software Assistants are digital tools or programs designed to help users accomplish specific tasks or streamline workflows within software environments. They can range from simple task automation bots to advanced AI-driven virtual assistants that provide support, suggestions, or information. These assistants often integrate with various applications to enhance productivity and reduce manual effort. Examples include voice-activated assistants, chatbots, and scheduling tools. Their main goal is to make using complex software easier and more efficient for users.

Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for entry-level roles or support functionsCompared for development expertise and project roles

The main difference between a Software Assistant and a Software Developer lies in their responsibilities and experience level. Software Assistants typically support development teams with administrative or basic technical tasks, requiring less advanced credentials. In contrast, Software Developers are responsible for creating and maintaining software, often requiring a higher level of education and technical skills. Both roles are essential in the tech industry but serve different functions within the software development lifecycle.

How does a software assistant typically collaborate with software engineers and other team members in a development project?

A Software Assistant often works closely with software engineers, project managers, and QA specialists to support the software development lifecycle. They may assist by managing documentation, tracking bugs or feature requests, preparing reports, and helping coordinate meetings or schedules. Effective communication and organization are key, as the Software Assistant often acts as a bridge between technical and non-technical team members to ensure projects run smoothly. This role provides valuable exposure to various aspects of software development and can be a stepping stone to more specialized technical roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software assistant?

To thrive as a Software Assistant, you need foundational knowledge of software applications, troubleshooting, and basic programming concepts, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with help desk software, ticketing systems, and common productivity tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-focused attitude help you effectively support users and resolve issues. These skills ensure efficient technical support, smooth user experiences, and contribute to overall organizational productivity.

Job description

Field Case Manager

About Horizon Case Management CORP
Horizon Case Management provides collaborative case management and care coordination services for individuals recovering from auto accidents, workplace injuries, and complex medical conditions. Guided by the CMSA standards, we focus on advocacy, communication, and coordination to ensure every client receives safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Our mission is to help clients feel secure, empowered, and supported by a professional healthcare advocate.

Position Summary

The Field Case Manager supports clients through advocacy and care coordination by attending medical appointments, facilitating communication among healthcare providers, and ensuring continuity of care following the plan established by the Director of Nursing.

This role does not involve clinical assessment, planning, or evaluation — it focuses on care coordination, advocacy, and support. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and skilled at building rapport with clients, medical professionals, and insurers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend client medical appointments (approximately 80% travel) to advocate for clients and support care coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and case management team to communicate updates from providers and ensure the plan of care is followed.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, physicians, therapists, and insurance representatives.
  • Document all appointments, interactions, and updates in the case management software.
  • Assist clients with understanding their treatment plans and improving health literacy.
  • Attend weekly team meetings for support, case review, and collaboration.
  • Check into the office 3–5 times per week depending on proximity to the nearest Horizon office.
  • Maintain professionalism and uphold Horizon’s values of advocacy, reliability, and compassion.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Required: Background in healthcare or social services — including but not limited to EMT, Medical Assistant, LPN, RN, Social Worker (BSW/MSW), Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), or degree in Medical Case Management or related healthcare field.
  • Preferred: Three (3) or more years of clinical, patient care, or case management experience.
  • Active, unrestricted licensure in the State of Michigan (if applicable).
  • CCM or ACM certification preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Computer literacy required — proficient in Word, Excel, Office 365, and a fast learner with case management software.
  • Comfortable using both iPad and HP or Mac computers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and advocacy abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and maintain timely documentation.
  • Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented.
  • Preferred Languages: Arabic, Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi, or other language (bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply).

Transportation Requirements:

  • Must have reliable, insured transportation for travel throughout Michigan.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance coverage in Michigan.

Work Schedule & Pay

  • Full-Time: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST
  • Part-Time: Flexible scheduling available.
  • Compensation:
  • $22-35/hour depending on experience, licenses, certifications and degree
  • Employment
  • W-2 employee
  • Paid drive time between client appointments and company locations.
  • No weekends or holidays.

Perks of the Job

  • Health Insurance – Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage offered (Zero deductible).
  • Professional Development Stipend – For additional certifications such as CCM or CBIS.
  • Work-Life Balance – Flexible scheduling; manage your caseload and schedule based on your location and availability.
