Job description

Job Title: Technology Support Specialist
Salary Range : $42,000-$76,000ย  (Commensurate with experience)ย 
Supervisor: Director of Information Technology
Job Classification: Exempt
Contract Length: 12-months (260 days)
Job Summary





  • Provide the first point of contact for support and maintenance of hardware equipment and develop procedures to ensure the whole team has the skills to support all computer devices.
  • Provide day to day general technical support to staff and students
  • In liaison with the IT and Instruction teams, develop and maintain Apple Mac, Apple apps, Windows hardware and software, assist with images for PCPS hardware, and the rollout of these images, perform ad hoc changes and updates as necessary.
  • Administer of the Apple MAC/windows server in liaison with the Technology Team
  • Provide routine maintenance of equipment including cleaning and consumable replacement.
  • Perform first line repairs to equipment where possible or arrange for appropriate maintenance or repair in liaison with the Director, Technology.
  • Assist the Director, Technology with keeping logs of equipment faults, equipment serial numbers, movement of IT equipment and software licensing information.
  • Produce self-help information and user guides that enable ease of use of the systems by the user.
  • Assist IT Technicians with the Install and/or move IT equipment including, computers/workstations, printers and other peripherals, at any of the PCPS sites, including cabling where appropriate.
  • Assist with stock control of equipment and consumable items.
  • Assist in the evaluation of hardware and software applications.
  • Ensure security and protection of PCPS systems to prevent misuse, viruses, etc. and assist with backing up systems as necessary.
  • Assist with maintaining the physical security of the PCPS's IT rooms and their contents.
  • Carry out portable appliance testing of equipment or assisting others to do so, as required. ย  Provide training to staff, if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned or as technologies evolve.


Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and abilities Required)ย 

  • Must possess a working knowledge of WIX XP/7, MAC OS X, Microsoft Server 2003/2008, Active Directory tools, ethernet switched wired and wireless networks, TCIP/IP address and routing.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and act as a team leader of other technical support personnel and posses excellent communication, customer service and technical professional skills.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record

Minimum Qualificationsย 

  • Education: Associates degree in Computer Science or related field or a combination of education and experience
  • Experience: 1 year of Experience in computer and network support preferred
