Overview of the Role
We are now extending our agentic and automation capabilities into Salesforce's Government Cloud (GovCloud) so our Government Security Operations Center (GSOC) CSIRT can respond at the same speed and scale as our commercial CSOC. As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, your primary mission is to help develop and deploy these agentic and automation platforms into GovCloud โ designing, building, and operating the playbooks, integrations, and agents that GSOC analysts will rely on every day, and translating their incident response workflows into reliable, auditable automation. This is a deeply handsโon Python engineering role, and it also expects you to operate fluently in the new era of AIโassisted software development. You will be expected to use modern AI development tooling intentionally and effectively as a core part of how you ship.
Eligibility
This candidate must be a U.S. citizen (U.S. born or naturalized) who does not hold dual citizenship and agrees to complete a U.S. federal government Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) for a Moderate Public Trust position.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate Pythonโbased playbooks, actions, integrations, and agents on the Luna platform that automate CSIRT workflows in GovCloud โ across triage, enrichment, containment, response, and postโincident.
- Partner directly with GSOC CSIRT analysts and incident responders to translate their tradecraft into trustworthy, auditable automation.
- Extend Luna's agentic capabilities (LLMโbacked actions, tool use, decision agents, MCP integrations) into the GovCloud environment, accounting for the isolation, compliance, and dataโhandling requirements that come with that boundary.
- Use AIโassisted software development tooling fluently and intentionally as part of your daily engineering workflow โ not as a novelty, but as a force multiplier for shipping faster and with higher quality.
- Drive endโtoโend ownership of the work you build: scoping, design, implementation, testing, deployment, observability, onโcall support, and postโincident hardening.
- Raise the bar for the teamโs engineering practices โ code review, testing, CI/CD, secureโbyโdefault integrations, and how we evaluate and adopt new AI development tools.
- Support the teamโs engineering excellence by performing code reviews and mentoring other engineers.
- Business hour onโcall to support software services owned by the team (service ownership).
- Build and ship highโquality, productionโgrade software using modern engineering practices, with AI as a core part of your development workflow by pushing the boundaries of AI development tools to deliver secure, optimized, and highโquality code.
- Design and orchestrate complex systems where AI agents integrate seamlessly into human workflows, driving efficiency and innovation at scale.
- Critically evaluate code (human or AIโgenerated) for correctness, quality, security, and performance.
- Contribute to building and maintaining the shared system context, an explicit repository of system designs, constraints, and standards that enables AI to operate accurately and reliably.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping production Python.
- Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD systems used in regulated deployments.
- Handsโon experience building automation, integrations, or backend services that interact with multiple thirdโparty APIs.
- A demonstrated, genuine AIโfirst approach to engineering. Using AI to move faster, build fluency across the stack, and contribute well beyond your core specialty.
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor, etc.) in development workflows.
- Advanced prompt engineering skills and the ability to write precise, structured prompts and cultivate the system context that makes AI outputs reliable, secure, and productionโready.
- Experience reviewing AIโgenerated code with a critical eye and orchestrating AI tools across multiโstep engineering tasks.
- Strong fundamentals: clean code, thoughtful API design, testing, version control, CI/CD, observability.
- Experience with public cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills โ you can explain technical decisions to both engineers and nonโengineer security stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience building on or contributing to a SOAR platform (XSOAR, Tines, Splunk SOAR, etc.).
- Experience working alongside a SOC, CSIRT, IR, or threat detection team โ you understand what an analystโs day actually looks like.
- Handsโon experience building agentic systems in production: LLMโbacked agents, tool/function calling, MCP servers, retrievalโaugmented systems, evaluation harnesses for nonโdeterministic systems.
- Familiarity with Salesforce GovCloud, FedRAMP, IL5, or comparable regulated cloud environments.
- Background in detection engineering, incident response, threat hunting, or adjacent security disciplines.
- Knowledge of security fundamentals: authentication/authorization frameworks (e.g., SSO, SAML, OAuth), secure transport (e.g., SSL, TLS), identity management (e.g., certificates, PKI).
- Prior experience leading a project endโtoโend as the technical owner across multiple stakeholder teams.
