The Master of Social Work Department at Morgan State University invites applications for a tenure or tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor with a primary focus on behavioral health, specifically substance use disorders and opioid use disorder. This appointment reflects the department's strategic commitment to strengthening behavioral health education, scholarship, and community impact in urban and historically underserved communities.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative and student-centered MSW Department that emphasizes anti-oppressive practice, trauma-informed pedagogy, and community-engaged scholarship. This position is ideal for a scholar-practitioner whose work integrates teaching, research, and service to advance equitable behavioral health systems and outcomes.
Job Duties
Teaching
Teach graduate-level MSW courses related to behavioral health, including but not limited to:
Substance Use Disorders and Co-Occurring Disorders
Behavioral Health Assessment and Intervention
Trauma-Informed, Recovery-Oriented, and Harm Reduction Approaches
Integrated Behavioral Health Practice
Advanced Practice or Policy electives aligned with SUD and OUD
Contribute to curriculum development and ongoing program assessment
Advise and mentor MSW students in academic and professional development

Research and Scholarship
Maintain an active research agenda focused on behavioral health, SUD, OUD, or related areas
Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences
Pursue external funding to support research and programmatic initiatives
Engage in interdisciplinary and community-based research collaborations aligned with the MSW Department's mission
Service
Participate in MSW Department, School, and University service activities
Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and program development efforts
Support community partnerships and professional service related to behavioral health and substance use treatment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
  • Clinical social work licensure or license eligibility
  • Practice experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment settings
  • History of or strong potential for external grant funding
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid MSW programs
  • Familiarity with CSWE accreditation and assessment processes
  • Experience working with urban communities and historically marginalized populations

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or DSW in Social Work or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated expertise in behavioral health with emphasis on substance use disorders and or opioid use disorder
  • Evidence of effective graduate-level teaching or strong teaching potential
  • Record of peer-reviewed scholarship appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor rank
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered social work education
