Job description

Location: Plymouth, MI or Greenville, SC
Reports to: Senior Manager Purchasing
Hybrid: 3 days onsite
Summary/Purpose
This position will have a broad understanding of measuring and managing environmental and social impacts in a commercial context, supported by deeper knowledge of one or more areas such as net zero carbon footprint, supply chain sustainability, social impact or environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting. This position is responsible for leading cross functional discussions supportive of research, analytics and reporting on sustainability markers and indicators which are in alignment with Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) best practices needed to satisfy customer and regulatory reporting requirements. In addition to sustainability initiatives, this position will support other activities including, but not be limited to, supply chain mapping and assistance with developing and enhancing analytical tools and processes to better support purchasing functions. This position is a leadership role and will require a cross-functional background applicant as this function takes on numerous special assignments as management requires. Applicant must be comfortable with presenting to executive level leadership.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Sustainability Reporting
    • Support sustainability compliance to all JTEKT customer requirements, inclusive of but not limited to the following:
      • Carbon Footprint
      • Conflict Minerals
      • Corporate Social Responsibility (e.g., Child Labor, Indentured Servitude, etc.)
      • Diversity
      • EHS
    • Coordinate with management on JTEKT supply base information gathering and compilation of results
    • Establish and track KPIs associated with supplier assessment results
    • Document all processes and results in support of future audits
  • Supply Chain Mapping
    • Support supply chain mapping for all JTEKT components and parts.
    • Ensure to a minimum that supplier mapping in conducted annually and data is available to provide to our customers at their request
  • Work with Purchasing Risk Manager to enhance current processes and data analytic tools/reports
    • Function will support interface with IT on using and implementing data analytics for purchasing reporting
  • Lead special assignments that come in from JTEKT customers as directed by management
  • Support purchasing audit and implementing corrective actions in purchasing organization
  • Other purchasing related special assignments inclusive of process improvement and implementation as directed by management

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Minimum of 3+ years of purchasing experience in OEM or tiered automotive industry, cross functional background a plus (sales, program management, quality, engineering, mfg.), ability to manage project(s), and ability to take on a leadership role within projects specific to organizational sustainability and resilience.
  • Ability to apply problem solving skills and creatively integrating purchasing processes supportive of responding to customer related requests.

• Ability to understand and anticipate technical issues and interface internally within JTEKT and with suppliers.
  • Ability to function successfully with considerable latitude and require technical guidance only on unusually complex problems or issues.
  • Ability to work in a participative management environment and maintain a drive for accomplishment of responsibilities.
  • Data analytic skills inclusive of strong proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience operating in Oracle, EcoVadis is a plus.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable quality, health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Professional certification is a plus, but not required.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, MBA Preferred
