Social Media Rater information

What is a social media rater?

A Social Media Rater is a person who evaluates and provides feedback on the quality and relevance of content found on social media platforms. Their main job is to assess posts, ads, and search results to help improve the accuracy and usefulness of social media algorithms. Social Media Raters typically work remotely, following specific guidelines to determine whether content aligns with community standards and user expectations. This role helps companies refine their platforms and enhance user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social media rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in English, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with social media platforms, web browsers, and specific rating tools or guidelines provided by employers is typically required. Excellent time management, critical thinking, and the ability to follow detailed instructions are crucial soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills are important to ensure accurate content evaluation and help improve the relevance and quality of social media feeds for end users.

What are some common challenges faced by social media raters, and how can they be managed?

Social Media Raters often encounter challenges such as evaluating content that may be ambiguous, culturally nuanced, or rapidly changing in relevance. Staying up-to-date on current events and understanding local context is essential to make accurate judgments. To manage these challenges, raters should regularly review training materials, actively participate in quality feedback sessions, and seek clarification from team leaders when in doubt. Collaborating with other raters through forums or group discussions can also provide valuable insights and support.

If you are passionate about functional health, love digging into social analytics, and know how to spark meaningful online conversations that drive action, this role is for you.

Youโ€™re a Great Fit for The Health Institute Ifโ€ฆ
  • You live and breathe social trends: You intuitively know what makes content resonate, how algorithms shift, and how to adapt complex topics into digestible, engaging social formats.
  • You view social through a dual lens: You care deeply about brand voice and community connection, but youโ€™re equally focused on metrics, click-through rates, audience growth, and organic conversion.
  • You are a proactive community builder: You love interacting with followers, starting meaningful discussions, and turning casual followers into engaged brand advocates.
  • You are mission-inspired: You get energized knowing that your content and campaigns can inspire people to make healthier choices and take control of their well-being.
Key Responsibilities
  • Channel Strategy & Execution: Partner with the Director of Content to oversee the day-to-day planning, scheduling, publishing, and management of THI social media platforms while maintaining a consistent brand voice and publishing cadence.
  • Organic Growth & Conversion Optimization: Develop and implement innovative organic growth strategies designed to expand reach, deepen audience engagement, and convert followers into email subscribers, event attendees, and customers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Director of Content, Multimedia Specialist, and broader Marketing Team to develop platform-native content, repurpose core marketing assets, and align social initiatives with larger company campaigns.
  • Community Management & Social Listening: Actively engage with our online community while monitoring social conversations, audience sentiment, and emerging trends to identify content opportunities.
  • Analytics & Performance Reporting: Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance indicators, including engagement rate, reach, follower growth, clicks, and conversion metrics. Translate insights into actionable improvements to social strategy.
  • Copywriting & Content Development: Write compelling hooks, captions, calls-to-action, and platform-specific copy designed to drive engagement and action.
  • Trend & Platform Monitoring: Stay current on social media trends, algorithm updates, emerging platforms, and new content formats to identify opportunities for growth.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of dedicated professional social media experience with a portfolio demonstrating measurable organic audience growth and conversion success
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Strong understanding of platform algorithms and native content formats, including Reels, Shorts, Stories, Live, and emerging formats
  • Proven ability to analyze social media analytics and translate performance data into strategies that drive measurable growth and conversions
  • Exceptional written communication and copywriting skills, with the ability to adapt tone and messaging across platforms
  • Strong understanding of organic social growth and digital marketing
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively manage changing priorities
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field preferred
  • Must reside in the Middle Tennessee area and be able to commute to our Franklin office at least two days per week, as well as additional days as needed for filming and team collaboration
