Social Media Rater information

What is a social media rater?

A Social Media Rater is a person who evaluates and provides feedback on the quality and relevance of content found on social media platforms. Their main job is to assess posts, ads, and search results to help improve the accuracy and usefulness of social media algorithms. Social Media Raters typically work remotely, following specific guidelines to determine whether content aligns with community standards and user expectations. This role helps companies refine their platforms and enhance user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social media rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in English, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with social media platforms, web browsers, and specific rating tools or guidelines provided by employers is typically required. Excellent time management, critical thinking, and the ability to follow detailed instructions are crucial soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills are important to ensure accurate content evaluation and help improve the relevance and quality of social media feeds for end users.

What are some common challenges faced by social media raters, and how can they be managed?

Social Media Raters often encounter challenges such as evaluating content that may be ambiguous, culturally nuanced, or rapidly changing in relevance. Staying up-to-date on current events and understanding local context is essential to make accurate judgments. To manage these challenges, raters should regularly review training materials, actively participate in quality feedback sessions, and seek clarification from team leaders when in doubt. Collaborating with other raters through forums or group discussions can also provide valuable insights and support.

What is the difference between Social Media Rater vs Social Media Evaluator?

The portfolio includes 80 markets with the top-rated television station and 100 markets with the first and/or second highest-rated television station in average all-day ratings across 116 of such markets that were measured by Nielsen in 2025. We also own the largest Telemundo Affiliate group with 46 markets and Gray Digital Media, a full-service digital agency offering national and local clients digital marketing strategies with the most advanced digital products and services. Our additional media properties include video production companies Raycom Sports, Tupelo Media Group, and PowerNation Studios, and studio production facilities Assembly Atlanta and Third Rail Studios.

About WOWT:

WOWT First Alert 6 is a modern facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our innovative digital, streaming, and broadcast news and First Alert Weather products provide award-winning, life-saving local coverage and effective marketing solutions for local businesses. Omaha is one of the most progressive cities in the Midwest, with a strong market supported by several national industries. The Omaha area boasts an array of top attractions, from the world-famous Henry Doorly Zoo to the NCAA Men's College World Series. Omaha is popular for its downtown, which is home to a revitalized riverfront and the Historic Old Market.

Job Summary/Description:

WOWT First Alert 6 is looking for an experienced, dynamic Morning Anchor to lead the market's largest morning newscast. Our morning block runs on broadcast and streaming from 4:30 am to 7 am, then continues streaming-only from 7 am to 9 am making this the most expansive morning franchise in the market. This is not a read-the-prompter role. We want someone who is deeply invested in the news, brings strong editorial instincts to the desk, and is an active presence in the newsroom every day.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead our morning newscasts - anchoring on broadcast and streaming from 4:30 am to 7 am, and continuing streaming from 7 am to 9 am - with authority, credibility, and a strong First Alert presence.
  • Contribute to content beyond the desk - as a working reporter developing and breaking stories, or as an editorial leader helping shape newscast content and direction.
  • Champion the First Alert brand on-air and in the newsroom, modeling urgency, accuracy, and viewer-focused storytelling.
  • Respond to breaking news with confidence and composure, leading coverage live on-air and across platforms.
  • Own our extended streaming block from 7 am to 9 am, delivering compelling, viewer-focused content that keeps audiences engaged beyond the broadcast window.
  • Write and prepare material for newscasts with strong, clear, conversational copy.
  • Engage actively with viewers on social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
  • Serve as a positive, collaborative presence in the newsroom and a trusted face in the Omaha community.
  • Make public appearances on behalf of the station as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • At least 3 years of experience as a news anchor in a professional broadcast environment.
  • A genuine passion for news and a desire to be more than a face on the set - someone who wants to be involved in the content.
  • Strong editorial instincts and news judgment, with an understanding of what makes a story a First Alert.
  • Excellent on-air presence and the ability to deliver news clearly, professionally, and with authority.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to write accurately and creatively under deadline pressure.
  • Comfortable and confident leading live breaking news coverage.
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic about streaming - willing to anchor special content and breaking news coverage on streaming platforms.
  • Active and engaging on social media, with an understanding of how to connect with audiences across platforms.
  • Strong people skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
