Job description

Do you believe that a connected community is a stronger community?

Make a difference where it matters most-right here at home.

At Village Media Ltd., we don't just report the news; we maintain the digital town square. We believe that rigorous, independent, and nonpartisan journalism is the bedrock of a healthy democracy-and we also know that a community needs spaces to connect, celebrate, and support one another.

We seek a dynamic individual to support the  launch of our community impact organizations in up to 5 Wisconsin communities, starting with Appleton.

As our Community Engagement Coordinator , you are the steward of community connection. You'll work alongside our local teams to ensure our digital town square is vibrant, supportive, and genuinely engaged.

What you will do:

Steward Village's GoodWorks  initiatives

  • Our GoodWorks programs represent the philanthropic heart of our organization. It's where we lift up local changemakers, support grassroots movements, and empower non-profits. This role will help coordinate and execute these local community impact programs, including the Community Builders Awards, Random Acts of Kindness, GoodWorksfeatures, and Community Match Initiatives.

Launch & grow SPACES

  • SPACES is a localized, safer, and algorithm-free alternative to traditional social media. In addition to researching and posting useful content to SPACES, such as upcoming local events, you will also recruit and onboard local "hosts" for topics such as photography, gardening, reading, etc. You will also identify, onboard, and support local community groups, clubs, and non-profits, empowering them to share their own updates, events, and stories directly on our platform.

The kind of people we're looking for

Village Media is beyond a traditional media company. We're a community impact organization. Our purpose is to help communities become stronger by keeping people informed, connected, and engaged.

That means we look for people who genuinely care about the places they serve. We seek teammates who are curious, collaborative, adaptable, and energized by solving problems. You'll fit right in if you take initiative, embrace change, and are always willing to step outside your job description to help the team or the community succeed.

What you bring to the table:

  • Passion for community: You are already active in your local community, whether through volunteering, organizing neighborhood events, or championing local businesses.

  • Exceptional communication skills: You are a natural relationship-builder who writes with warmth, speaks with empathy, and listens with genuine curiosity.

  • Digital comfort: You are comfortable navigating digital platforms, managing online forums, and learning new software. Experience with online community moderation or social media management is a major asset.

  • Project management skills: You can juggle multiple moving parts-from coordinating an advertising grant for a local charity to onboarding a new neighborhood association onto our SPACES platform.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit: Because this is a launch role, you need to be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently and building a presence from the ground up.

Compensation and logistics

  • Work arrangement: Remote/work-from-Home, with a requirement of residing within your assigned Wisconsin market (Appleton, Fond du Lac, Kaukauna, Manitowoc, or Sheboygan). Open to candidates willing to relocate to this region.

  • Compensation: $50,000 USD per annum.

  • Hours: Generally, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, but as a community organizer, you understand that doesn't always follow a 9-to-5 schedule.

If you are ready to bring genuine connection and community spirit to one of our five new Wisconsin markets, please apply!

What to Include:

Your resume; 2-page limit: Walk us through your professional journey and community involvement.

Your story (in lieu of a traditional cover letter): 2-page limit: Tell us who you are beyond a list of bullet points. We want to read a story you are truly proud of. In your submission, please address the following:

  • What makes you proud to live in your community?

  • Tell us about a local business or non-profit you love, and the story behind why they matter.

  • Share a meaningful moment-whether you were making a tangible impact locally, or a time you brought a group of diverse people together.
