What is social engineering?

A Social Engineering job typically involves manipulating or influencing people to disclose confidential information, often for security testing or ethical hacking purposes. Professionals in this role study human psychology, exploit security weaknesses, and test an organization's vulnerability to phishing, pretexting, and other deceptive tactics. Ethical social engineers work to improve cybersecurity by identifying and strengthening weak points in human-based security protocols.

What are some common challenges faced by social engineering professionals in their daily work?

Social Engineering professionals often navigate the challenge of balancing ethical testing practices with organizational trust, ensuring that their methods expose vulnerabilities without causing undue alarm. They must stay updated on evolving tactics and countermeasures, as threat actors continually develop new strategies for bypassing security. Collaboration with IT, HR, and management teams is essential for clear communication and effective training. This dynamic environment requires adaptability, discretion, and a commitment to ethical standards as well as ongoing professional development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in social engineering, and why are they important?

To succeed in a Social Engineering role, you need a deep understanding of human psychology, information security principles, and risk assessment, often supported by a degree in cybersecurity or related certifications such as CEH or Security+. Familiarity with social engineering toolkits, phishing simulation platforms, and incident response systems is often required. Excellent communication, observation, and persuasive skills help build trust and effectively identify vulnerabilities. These skills are crucial for ethically testing and strengthening an organization’s defenses against human-based security threats.

At the core of Epic's success are talented, passionate people. Epic prides itself on creating a collaborative, welcoming, and creative environment. Whether it's building award-winning games or crafting engine technology that enables others to make visually stunning interactive experiences, we're always innovating.
Being Epic means being a part of a team that continually strives to do right by our community and users. We're constantly innovating to raise the bar of engine and game development.
PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
What We Do
Product Management partners with game development, publishing, marketing, and platform teams to provide a data and market-driven view of product strategy that aligns with business goals. As part of Epic's Growth Team, we use our product expertise to identify and drive growth levers to grow our player base and business.
What You'll Do
As a Director of Product Management (Social & Player Identity Platform), you will define and drive the strategy, roadmap, and execution for Epic's social and identity ecosystem across mobile, PC, and console. You will lead efforts to create seamless, connected player experiences, ensuring players can easily establish their identity, maintain continuity across devices, and meaningfully connect with others.
In this role, you will apply both creative and analytical thinking to evolve foundational platform systems - including accounts, identity, and social features - while partnering across teams to improve engagement, retention, and ecosystem connectivity at scale.
In this role, you will
  • Drive the social and identity platform strategy, contributing to a unified roadmap that strengthens player connection, engagement, and long-term retention across the ecosystem
  • Own core player systems, including identity (accounts, authentication, profiles), social graph (friends, presence, communication), and cross-platform continuity, ensuring seamless and consistent experiences across all surfaces
  • Partner with development and design teams to identify and prioritize platform-level features and system improvements that enhance how players discover, connect, and interact with others
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (game teams, publishing, marketing, regional teams) to integrate social and identity systems into player journeys, optimizing onboarding, engagement loops, and social-driven growth
  • Work closely with engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-performance backend and frontend systems that support identity and social features across millions of players globally
  • Leverage data and experimentation to define success metrics, evaluate feature performance, and identify opportunities to improve adoption, engagement, and retention across social and identity systems
  • Drive alignment across stakeholders by clearly communicating product vision, strategy, and requirements, ensuring a shared understanding of goals and execution plans
What we're looking for
  • Extensive product management experience, including leadership roles, building and scaling consumer-facing platform products or shared systems
  • Proven track record delivering social and/or identity platform features, such as accounts, authentication, profiles, friends systems, communication tools, or cross-platform connectivity
  • Strong understanding of how identity and social systems work together to enable player connection, engagement, and ecosystem growth
  • Deep analytical skills, with experience leveraging data to drive improvements in platform adoption, engagement, and retention
  • Experience translating user needs and business goals into scalable platform solutions that operate seamlessly across devices and surfaces
  • Strong partnership with engineering teams on complex systems, with the ability to balance usability, performance, privacy, and scalability
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional environments with engineering, design, and business stakeholders
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams, and building strong product organizations
  • Passion for building foundational player experiences that define identity and enable meaningful social connections across games, devices, and services
