Job description

Title: Lakeview Elementary Social Worker                             

General Description: The goal of the Social Worker is to engage and support identified students in reaching academic and school success. The Social Worker will utilize a tiered system of intervention strategies while working with students, staff and parents/guardians to assist students. The Social Worker will provide assistance to identified students, individually and/or in groups regarding school work, behaviors, attendance, and other academic/social/emotional barriers that may interfere with school success.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) and approved by MDE as a school social worker
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work cooperatively with colleagues
  • An understanding of social services available in the community to support "at-risk" students and families
  • Ability to analyze, implement, track and report data about intervention plans and strategies

Preferred Qualifications:               

  • Experience in an education setting - Preferred

  • Experience with evaluation and programming

  • Willingness to lead and/or engage in extra and co-curricular activities
  • Willingness to become a member of a close-knit school family

General Information Duties:

  • Implement school counseling/social worker services within a multi-tiered intervention model for programs and services, including the encouragement of school-wide positive behavior support with an emphasis on supporting all students (Tier 1, 2 and 3)
  • Provide consultation, collaboration and training to families and school staff regarding students' social, emotional and behavioral status impacting learning, development and mental health and school success
  • Provide crisis prevention, planning and intervention services, including assessments of the impact of trauma on development, learning and school performance
  • Accessibility for students, parents/guardians, and school staff for education related purposes both during and outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Responsible for creating/monitoring 504 plans and IEPs involving social work
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building principal
