What is a social engineer?

Social engineers are individuals who use psychological manipulation to influence people into divulging confidential information or performing actions that may compromise security. Often, social engineers exploit human behavior and trust rather than technical vulnerabilities to gain access to systems, networks, or data. Their tactics can include phishing, pretexting, baiting, or impersonation. Social engineering is commonly used in the context of cybersecurity, where attackers target employees or individuals to bypass technological security measures. Understanding and recognizing social engineering techniques is crucial for maintaining strong security protocols.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social engineer?

To thrive as a Social Engineer, you need a deep understanding of human psychology, strong problem-solving skills, and often a background in cybersecurity or information security. Familiarity with penetration testing tools, social engineering toolkits, and relevant certifications such as CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) or OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional) is typically required. Excellent communication, persuasion, and adaptability are standout soft skills for gaining trust and navigating diverse social situations. These skills are vital for identifying security vulnerabilities, ethically testing organizational defenses, and raising awareness to prevent real-world cyberattacks.

What are the common challenges faced by social engineers when conducting security assessments?

Social Engineers often encounter challenges such as gaining the trust of targets, navigating organizational security protocols, and adapting to unpredictable human behavior. They must balance ethical considerations and client boundaries while simulating real-world attack scenarios. Collaboration with IT and security teams is crucial to ensure assessments are thorough and do not disrupt business operations. Effective communication and documentation are also essential for providing actionable feedback to clients after an engagement.

What is the difference between Social Engineer vs Penetration Tester?

Job description

DESCRIPTION

duPont REGISTRY Group is seeking a Social Media Manager to lead social media strategy, content development, audience growth, and day-to-day execution across the duPont REGISTRY portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of media, automotive, content, commerce, events, and brand partnerships. You will be responsible for developing a cohesive social strategy that supports duPont REGISTRY while understanding the different audiences, objectives, and opportunities across our marketplace, magazine and editorial platforms, live auctions, events, dealer network, and other Group initiatives.

We are looking for someone who understands that social media is more than a distribution channel. It is an extension of our editorial and media organization, a tool for building community, a platform for our partners and advertisers, and an increasingly important driver of audience and business growth. The ideal candidate understands automotive culture and the modern social landscape, can identify emerging formats and trends early, and knows how to turn a strong brand into compelling content across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms. Automotive industry experience is a major plus. Hands-on content creation experienceโ€”including photography, filming, editing, and short-form videoโ€”is also highly desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Social Strategy & Audience Growth
    • Own and develop the overall social media strategy for duPont REGISTRY Group and its core properties.
    • Build platform-specific strategies for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant or emerging channels.
    • Develop new content series, formats, programming, and publishing schedules designed to grow and engage our audiences.
    • Create strategies that connect social growth to the broader objectives of the business, including editorial, marketplace, auctions, events, dealers, partnerships, and new product launches.
    • Establish clear audience growth, engagement, traffic, and performance goals and regularly evaluate results.
    • Stay ahead of platform changes, emerging formats, creator trends, automotive culture, and shifts in how audiences discover and consume content.
  • Content & Editorial
    • Serve as an extension of the duPont REGISTRY Group media and editorial organization across social and video platforms.
    • Translate editorial stories, magazine features, automotive news, marketplace inventory, auctions, events, and original productions into compelling social content.
    • Work with editors, photographers, filmmakers, designers, and other creators to develop social-first content.
    • Build recurring social franchises and original content series rather than relying solely on repurposing existing material.
    • Maintain an editorial and social calendar that coordinates content across different business units and major initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to capture content around important automotive moments, events, launches, dealers, collectors, and personalities.
  • Content Creation
    • Develop briefs, concepts, scripts, shot lists, and creative direction for social content.
    • Coordinate internal and external photographers, videographers, editors, creators, and contributors.
    • Personally capture or edit content when appropriate and help the organization operate quickly around real-time opportunities.
    • Ensure content maintains the quality, voice, visual identity, and authority expected from the duPont REGISTRY Group brand.
  • Marketplace, Auctions, Dealers & Events
    • Develop social strategies that support the duPont REGISTRY Marketplace and its dealer network while maintaining an engaging audience-first approach.
    • Work with our auction team to build programming around duPont REGISTRY Live auctions, consignments, results, and featured vehicles.
    • Support duPont REGISTRY events and major automotive events with pre-event, live, and post-event social coverage.
    • Develop repeatable formats that showcase dealers, vehicles, collectors, partners, and other members of the duPont REGISTRY community.
    • Support new products and business initiatives with coordinated social launch strategies.
  • Partnerships & Corporate Communications
    • Collaborate with sales and partnership teams to execute high-quality social programs for advertisers and brand partners.
    • Understand the balance between editorial content, organic social programming, sponsored content, and corporate communications.
    • Work across multiple management teams and Group companies to coordinate messaging and priorities.
    • Support company announcements, partnerships, launches, events, and other corporate communications through social channels.
    • Help develop social concepts and deliverables that strengthen commercial partnerships without compromising audience trust or brand quality.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media for a media company, automotive brand, lifestyle brand, publisher, agency, or similarly complex organization.
  • Strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging social platforms.
  • Proven ability to develop social strategies that drive measurable audience and engagement growth.
  • Strong editorial instincts and an understanding of what makes a compelling automotive story.
  • Experience developing original social content series and programming.
  • Ability to manage multiple brands, business units, stakeholders, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience working with editorial, creative, sales, marketing, and executive teams.
  • Understanding of branded content, advertisers, partnerships, and corporate communications.
  • Strong writing, communication, organizational, and project-management skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment and covering live events and breaking opportunities.
PREFERRED
  • Professional experience in the automotive industry or automotive media.
  • Strong knowledge of enthusiast, collector, exotic, luxury, and performance vehicles.
  • Existing understanding of automotive dealers, auctions, events, and enthusiast communities.
  • Photography and/or videography experience.
  • Short-form video production and editing skills.
  • Experience growing TikTok or YouTube audiences.
  • Experience working with creators and influencers.
  • Experience developing social programs for major advertisers or brand partners.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Success in this role means building a recognizable, consistent, and growing social presence that brings the entire duPont REGISTRY Group ecosystem together. Our editorial team may tell the story. Our marketplace may have the car. Our auction team may be selling it. Our events may put the community around it. Our partners may help make the experience possible.

Your job is to understand how those pieces become one compelling experience for the audience across social mediaโ€”and then build the strategy, content, programming, and team coordination necessary to make it happen.

You will help define how duPont REGISTRY Group reaches the next generation of automotive enthusiasts while continuing to serve the collectors, dealers, owners, brands, and enthusiasts who have made duPont REGISTRY a trusted name in the automotive world for more than 40 years.
