Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. Using evidence-based approaches, employees implement lasting change with a positive impact for the people of Wisconsin.
The Division of Adult Institutions is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher - Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Special Education (SPED) position. This position will be located at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution in Plymouth, WI.
Position Summary
This position develops and implements a program of professional educational services in Special Education for students with one or more disabilities as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instructions (DPI) that meet their assessed individual academic needs.
Responsibilities include management of evaluations (initial and three-year), coordinating diagnostic testing, development of the students' Individual Education Program (IEPs), progress monitoring, assessment of evidence-based practices and materials, maintenance of confidential records, and transition planning.
Salary Information
Starting salary for this position is between $27.00 and $35.06 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Candidates may receive supplemental pay, up to $2.97/hr., for additional credits relevant to the position that are over & above the credits needed for certification.
Pay upon appointment will be in accordance with language in the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Qualifications
Minimally qualified a pplicants must meet criteria described below. Make sure to attach relevant transcripts, as well as any other applicable credentials, licenses, or certifications. Possession of, or eligibility for, a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license in Special Education for grades 9 through 12 (Learning Disabilities; Cognitive Disability; Emotional Behavior Disability; or Cross-Categorical Special Education ).
IN ADDITION) Possession of or eligibility for an Adult Basic Education Teacher credential by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board as outlined below:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Elementary Education; OR
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Secondary Education in the area of Reading, English, Math, Science, or Social Studies; OR
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education; OR
Bachelor's Degree or higher with a minor or 15 combined semester credits in Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social studies. (Teaching degree preferred.)
*Recommend Teaching Methods course if no prior teaching experience or no credits in Teaching Methods
Note: This does not include Health, Art, Music or Physical Education for any of the above areas
