Snowflake information

What are some common challenges faced by Snowflake professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Snowflake professionals often encounter challenges such as optimizing query performance, managing data security and access controls, and integrating Snowflake with multiple data sources. Addressing these challenges requires continuous learning about the platform’s evolving features, proactively monitoring query and storage usage, and collaborating closely with data architects, DevOps, and IT security teams. Staying up to date with best practices and regularly attending Snowflake community webinars or training can also be extremely helpful. Most companies encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration, so being proactive in problem-solving will help you thrive in this role.

What is a Snowflake?

A Snowflake job typically refers to tasks executed within Snowflake, a cloud-based data platform. These jobs can include data loading, transformation, querying, or scheduled tasks using Snowflake's task and stream features. They help automate data workflows, improve performance, and ensure efficient data management within the Snowflake ecosystem.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Snowflake position?

To thrive as a Snowflake professional (such as a Snowflake Data Engineer or Administrator), you need a solid understanding of cloud data warehousing, SQL, and data modeling, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Experience with the Snowflake platform, data integration tools (like Informatica or Talend), and relevant certifications such as SnowPro are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help professionals translate business requirements into data solutions and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for optimizing data workflows, ensuring system performance, and supporting the data-driven goals of an organization.

The award winning FreedomPay Commerce Platform operates on a single, unified technology stack across multiple continents allowing enterprises to deliver a consistent, repeatable experience on a global scale.  FreedomPay is a fast paced, high growth company with a great culture with competitive benefits and compensation with a business casual atmosphere.

We are seeking a mid-level, hands-on Snowflake Account Administrator to support the day-to-day administration, security, access management, and operational health of our Snowflake environments. This role will administer Snowflake across multiple accounts and environments, including development, QA, UAT, production, and disaster recovery.

The ideal candidate has prior hands-on experience supporting Snowflake in a production environment and is comfortable working with user and role administration, access control, account configuration, monitoring, usage visibility, and operational support. This position is focused primarily on execution of day-to-day administrative tasks while supporting established standards for environment consistency, access separation, auditability, and data retention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer and maintain Snowflake accounts across development, QA, UAT, production, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Support environment consistency across Snowflake accounts, including configuration alignment, controlled access separation, and operational readiness.
  • Manage Snowflake users, roles, privileges, grants, warehouses, resource monitors, and account-level settings
  • Provision, deprovision, and audit user access using least-privilege RBAC practices.
  • Support SSO and MFA integration for Snowflake access, including coordination with Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID where applicable
  • Monitor and support performance of Snowflake workloads that operate against very large tables, including identifying query, warehouse, and process-level issues that may impact reliability, cost, or runtime
  • Support data retention requirements by helping administer and monitor relevant Snowflake account, database, schema, and object-level configurations
  • Assist with account monitoring, warehouse usage, credit consumption visibility, resource monitors, and operational health checks.
  • Monitor account activity, access patterns, administrative actions, and usage trends to support auditability and operational oversight
  • Maintain operational runbooks and documentation for onboarding, access changes, environment administration, incident response, and account recovery
  • Partner with security, infrastructure, data engineering, analytics, and application teams to support secure and reliable Snowflake operations
  • Provide general production support for Snowflake administrative and operational needs
Required Experience:
  • Prior hands-on experience as a Snowflake administrator, Snowflake platform administrator, or Snowflake account administrator in a production environment.
  • Experience administering Snowflake across multiple environments such as development, QA, UAT, production, and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Snowflake users, roles, grants, privileges, warehouses, resource monitors, and account-level configuration.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining RBAC, least-privilege access, SSO, MFA, and access-control practices in Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID integration concepts for authentication, identity, and access management.
  • Experience supporting auditability through access reviews, user activity monitoring, administrative action tracking, and related operational controls.
  • Familiarity with data retention concepts and the administrative controls needed to support retention requirements.
  • Experience supporting large-scale Snowflake environments with very large data sets, including tables containing hundreds of billions to trillions of rows.
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting performance management for queries, pipelines, jobs, and operational processes that depend on very large Snowflake tables.
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to troubleshoot Snowflake operational, access, or configuration issues.
  • Experience with account monitoring, query history, billing or consumption oversight, and usage governance.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with security, IAM, infrastructure, data engineering, analytics, and application teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Snowflake Streaming a plus.
  • Experience with Kafka or event-streaming platforms a plus.
  • Experience with Openflow a plus.
  • Experience with Snowflake data sharing, Marketplace, managed accounts, or reader-account patterns.
  • Experience with network policies, authentication policies, masking, data governance, auditing, or related Snowflake security features.
  • Snowflake certifications are a plus.
  • Experience supporting regulated, security-sensitive, or audit-driven environments is strongly preferred.
What success looks like:
  • Snowflake accounts across development, QA, UAT, production, and disaster recovery are administered consistently and reliably.
  • Access is properly separated by environment and follows least-privilege principles.
  • User onboarding, access changes, and deprovisioning are handled accurately and efficiently.
  • SSO, MFA, and Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID integrations are supported effectively.
  • Administrative activity, access changes, and operational controls are auditable.
  • Snowflake usage, costs, and operational health are visible and actively monitored.
  • Data retention requirements are supported through appropriate administrative practices.
  • Large-table workloads and dependent processes are monitored and supported for reliable performance, predictable runtimes, and efficient resource usage.
  • Teams can rely on Snowflake environments that are secure, stable, and ready for day-to-day operational needs.
