BWXT is currently seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!
Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) engineers ensure plant operations comply with NRC requirements in order to prevent a criticality accident.
Job Description/Duties:
  • Performs NCS analyses to define the safety basis for SNM operations.
  • Advises production personnel on the impact of process changes and facility modifications.
  • Executes computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets with regards to NRC License limits.
  • Determines limits and controls to maintain operations critically safe.
  • Evaluates accident sequences and identifies Items Relied On For Safety to ensure a criticality is highly unlikely.
  • Approves operating and maintenance procedures important to the safety of operations.
  • Participates in audits and inspections, investigations of unusual incidents, and design reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required. Preference given to candidates with Nuclear Engineering or Physical Science focus. Internal candidates with a Physics Degree who are already on the Engineering Ladder are also eligible.
  • Must possess at least four (4) years of related experience. Previous NCS experience preferred, especially in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.
  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 70 is a plus.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
