What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SNFist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SNFist, you need a medical degree (MD or DO), board certification in internal or family medicine, and specialized experience managing complex patients in skilled nursing facilities. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), Medicare regulations, and facility-specific care management systems is essential. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help SNFists work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and support patient-centered care. These competencies ensure high-quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and optimal transitions of care for vulnerable populations in skilled nursing settings.

The main difference lies in the scope of responsibilities and certifications, with Snfists typically requiring additional training or certifications related to skilled care.

What are SNFists?

SNFists are healthcare providers, typically physicians or advanced practice providers, who specialize in caring for patients in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). They focus on managing the complex medical needs of post-acute and long-term care residents, often coordinating care between hospitals, SNFs, and other healthcare providers. SNFists play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes, reducing hospital readmissions, and enhancing the quality of care in these settings.
