Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is recruiting for a full-time Food Service Worker 2 for the Green Canteen Snack Bar located at the William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center. * This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The Snack Bar Attendant is responsible for providing excellent customer service while supporting the daily operations of the campus snack bar. Duties include operating the point-of-sale system, accurately handling cash and credit transactions, preparing and serving food and beverages, stocking inventory, opening and closing the facility, transporting supplies between the Dandini and Edison campuses, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, receiving and organizing deliveries, and assisting with inventory, merchandising, special events, and other operational tasks as needed. This position requires strong customer service, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming experience for customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and processing purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system.

  • Accurately handle cash, credit card, and other payment transactions while balancing the cash drawer at the end of each shift.

  • Prepare, serve, and present food and beverage items in a clean, safe, and attractive manner.

  • Monitor inventory levels and restock displays, coolers, and service areas to ensure product availability.

  • Open and close the snack bar following established procedures, including preparing equipment, stocking supplies, securing cash, completing required documentation, and ensuring the facility is ready for operation or properly secured at closing.

  • Transport food, beverages, supplies, and merchandise between the Dandini Campus and Edison location using approved procedures.

  • Receive, inspect, organize, and store deliveries while maintaining proper food handling and inventory practices.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the snack bar, food preparation areas, storage rooms, equipment, customer seating areas, and workspaces.

  • Wash dishes, utensils, and food preparation equipment, and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, and other waste.

  • Assist with inventory counts, merchandising, special events, and other operational support activities as assigned.

  • Perform other related duties as needed to support snack bar operations.

Essential Qualifications

  • This position requires two (2) years of experience in quantity food preparation and service;OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food service, retail, or customer service.

  • Experience operating a cash register or POS system.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. While on call on the rotation schedule, the emergencies can extend the working day for longer shifts/extended hours.

Compensation Grade

Grade 22 (Step 01, $18.88/hr)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
