Overview: Provide the Quality Engineering technical expertise and guidance for the manufacture of high quality durable electronics products for SMTCโ€™s customers. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and communicate the Voice of the Customer to the SMTC Customer Focused Team to ensure that manufacturing processes and quality systems align with the customersโ€™ requirements and are in accordance with the Quality Systems requirements and appropriate IPC specifications. These elements include Customersโ€™:
  1. Supplier scorecard reporting
  2. Manufacturing quality objectives
  3. Quality data reporting requirements
  4. Receiving inspection plans
  • This position is accountable for ensuring timely responsiveness to customersโ€™ expectations including:
  1. Providing Quality data as requested and for Quarterly Business Reviews
  2. Providing customer correspondence and responses to questions or concerns
  3. Driving rapid turnaround of customer returns, review of all customer returns and performing trend analysis of the returns data to provide feedback into the manufacturing processes
  4. Leading team based Root Cause and Corrective Action responses for customer complaints and returns
  • Provide responsive production support including; Quick-Turn initiatives, providing guidance and technical expertise for process instructions and quality requirements, material review board and scrap dispositions, process deviations and customer/company engineering change implementation activities.
  • Develop specific quality plans for each customer, including any specialized instructions for incoming inspection of electronic components, PCBโ€™s Chassis, and other material. Review and approve manufacturing work instructions and test procedures to assure that customer and SMTC Quality standards will be met.
  • Support New Product Introduction, ECN updates or changes and the validation and qualification of methods and procedures for new processes or equipment and apply the use of design of experiments, ANOVA and other statistical analysis techniques for process development to achieve or exceed customer expected Quality Levels and/or internal goals.
  • Create and update PFMEAโ€™s and control plans for products.
  • Support Program Management and customer meetings and review data from each major quality control point weekly with the cell team and initiate corrective actions when any control point reported falls below required goals.
  • Investigate customer reported problems and lead the use of team based problem solving to determine root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence.
  • Support SMTCโ€™s quality systems including auditing the Quality Management System, coordination and standardization of processes between products, processes and other SMTC facilities. Other duties as assigned.
  • Based on KPI trends, initiate Kaizen events to improve quality metrics and customer satisfaction.
  • In collaboration with Purchasing, manage suppliersโ€™ performance, including the timely resolution of supplier non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with suppliers performing supplier audits and helping supplier improve their quality performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering is preferred
  • Quality training and certification in Quality Engineering and auditing, e.g. CQE and CQA is a plus.
  • Familiar with AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 13485 requirements
  • Strong computer skills and use of MS Office


Experience:

  • Three (3) or more years in electronics manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies including performance of machine and process qualification and capability analysis preferred.
  • Provide evidence of practical application of quality data analysis for problem solving and reporting including the use of Lean, Six Sigma and statistical methods and tools.
