What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SMI Case Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SMI Case Manager, you need a background in social work, psychology, or a related field, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree and, in some states, licensure or certification. Familiarity with case management software, electronic health records (EHRs), and knowledge of community mental health resources are typically required. What are SMI Case Managers?

SMI Case Managers are professionals who work with individuals diagnosed with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) to coordinate and manage their care. They help clients access necessary services such as therapy, medication management, housing, and employment support. SMI Case Managers collaborate with healthcare providers, families, and community agencies to create and monitor individualized treatment plans, ensuring clients receive comprehensive support.
