What are some common challenges faced by SMB Solution Engineers when supporting small and medium-sized businesses?

SMB Solution Engineers often face the challenge of adapting technical solutions to fit the unique needs and limited resources of small and medium-sized businesses. Unlike large enterprises, SMB clients may have tighter budgets, fewer IT staff, and evolving requirements, which means engineers must provide scalable, easy-to-implement, and cost-effective solutions. Job description

AWS Global Sales drives adoption of the AWS cloud worldwide, enabling customers of all sizes to innovate and expand in the cloud. Our team empowers every customer to grow by providing tailored service, unmatched technology, and committed support. We dive deep to understand each customer's unique challenges, then craft innovative solutions that accelerate their success.

This customer-first approach is how we built the world's most adopted cloud. Join us and help us grow.
Lead a team of Solutions Architects transforming how SMB customers adopt cloud, generative AI, and modern architectures.

You will be technically credible, commercially sharp, and a trusted leader who coaches high-performing teams while driving real customer outcomes and shaping AWS product strategy through field insights.
Build and lead a high-performing Solutions Architecture team focused on SMB customers across West US
Coach SAs on cloud adoption, generative AI architectures, and pragmatic decision-making for fast-moving customers
Drive measurable adoption of AWS services as a paired technical and commercial function alongside sales teams
Be the voice of the customer back to AWS product teams, surfacing field patterns that shape the roadmap
Produce thought leadership through reference architectures, workshops, and conference sessions that position AWS as the trusted cloud for SMB
Work in a culture that values technical excellence, customer obsession, continuous learning, and flexibility
Key job responsibilities
As a key member of the SMB Solutions Architecture and Sales leadership teams, ensure customer success in building, migrating, and modernizing applications onto the AWS platform, leveraging best practices, modern architectures, and generative AI and agentic patterns
In partnership with Sales team, formulate and execute a strategy to drive measurable customer outcomes and AWS adoption across the SMB segment, operating as a paired technical and commercial function alongside your sales counterparts
Hire, onboard, train, and develop new Solutions Architects; build a high-performing team with depth across cloud architecture, modern application development, and generative AI
Serve as the voice of the customer back to AWS service and product teams; surface field patterns from the SMB segment, identify gaps, and deliver feedback that shapes the product roadmap
Produce and drive thought leadership through blogs, reference architectures, workshops, and conference sessions; guide and motivate your team to create high-value customer-facing content and best practices
Build executive relationships with technical and business decision makers within customer accounts, establishing AWS as their trusted cloud advisor, and act as a liaison between customers, service engineering teams, and support
Define and track success metrics across team performance, customer adoption milestones, and field-to-product feedback impact; engage with AWS leadership to surface field insights and drive cross-organizational alignment
A day in the life
No two days look the same. You might start the morning reviewing a customer architecture with one of your SAs, then join a pipeline review with your Sales counterpart mid-morning. Over lunch you review a reference architecture your team is publishing, and in the afternoon you surface SMB field patterns to an AWS service team to inform their next release

You close the day interviewing a candidate.
You lead a team of Solutions Architects covering West US SMB customers, where needs range from first-cloud migrations to AI-powered architectures. Your stakeholders span Sales, Business Development, AWS service teams, and executive leadership, and your mission is constant: help customers move fast, confidently, and with real business impact.
About the team
The SMB Solutions Architecture team helps the companies that power the American economy grow and thrive on AWS. SMBs represent 99.7% of US firms and create 65% of net new jobs, their success is our purpose.
We operate by tenets that define how we work: deep customer understanding precedes technical recommendations; data drives our priorities; we measure impact over volume; we push boundaries over the status quo; and diverse perspectives make our solutions better

We celebrate customer wins not just as recognition, but as tools for community growth.
We value work-life harmony, continuous learning, and a culture of curiosity and connection, where every team member can do their best work and grow their career.
