The main difference between a Smart Setter and a Cable Installer lies in their focus and skill set. Smart Setters specialize in installing and configuring smart home devices and automation systems, often requiring technical certifications. Cable Installers primarily handle the physical installation of cables for TV, internet, and phone services, with a focus on wiring and connectivity. Both roles are essential in the home technology industry but serve different functions based on their expertise and work environment.

What are the main challenges Smart Setters face when qualifying leads, and how can they overcome them?

Smart Setters often encounter challenges such as identifying genuinely interested prospects and navigating conversations to uncover true needs without being overly intrusive. To overcome these obstacles, successful Setters use active listening, ask open-ended questions, and maintain thorough knowledge of the product or service they represent. Regular collaboration with sales closers and marketing teams also helps them refine their approach based on feedback and evolving customer profiles. Staying adaptable and consistently updating their outreach strategies are key to thriving in this dynamic role.

What are Smart Setters?

Smart Setters are professionals who qualify potential leads for sales teams, often working in industries such as solar, real estate, or home improvement. Their main responsibility is to contact prospects, assess their interest and eligibility, and schedule appointments for sales representatives. They use sales scripts, customer relationship management (CRM) tools, and sometimes automated technology to streamline the lead qualification process. Strong communication skills and persistence are key traits for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Smart Setter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Smart Setter (Sales Appointment Setter), you need strong communication skills, persuasive sales techniques, and experience in lead generation or telemarketing, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, auto-dialers, and call tracking systems is typically required. Persistence, active listening, and adaptability are valuable soft skills that help build rapport and handle rejection effectively. These skills are crucial for consistently generating qualified leads and supporting the sales pipeline in a competitive environment.

Job description

We are a fast-growing local San Diego company that focuses on spot repairs to a wide-variety of interior and exterior surfaces - tile, countertops, cabinets, floors, tubs, sinks, appliances and more. We are looking for a person to fill our Surface Experts Repair Technician role.
Job Benefits:
  • Competitive Compensation with both Commission and Bonus opportunity
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • Paid training
  • Medical, dental and vision benefits as well as 401(k) after onboarding period
  • A company car and/or car allowance for commuting and job duties

Tile Setter / Installer
We are looking for someone who is an experienced tile setter. The candidate will need to be familiar with the different types of tile (porcelain, ceramic and natural stone). It is also helpful if they have experience in installing tile in a variety of locations (ex: Shower walls and floors, backsplashes and high traffic areas). A candidate should be able to explain how they plan and layout a tile install before they start a job during the interview process.
Requirements:
  • Experience of working with your hands, whether that's in construction, manufacturing or even a hobby.
  • Having experience working in facilities maintenance can be very helpful.
  • It is helpful, but not necessary to have an Art background. Understanding color and how to match color is a large part of what we do. If you are color blind than this is not the job for you.
  • The training process is extensive so we are only interested in hiring someone who can make at least a 2-year commitment.

We are also looking for individuals with:
  • Attention to detail and willingness to take constructive feedback
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and creatively problem-solve
  • Commitment to meet project timelines
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Clean and insurable driving record (required, verifiable)
  • Strong communication skills (Spanish speaking skills a plus)
  • Patience and persistence

Experience a Day-in-the-life of a Surface Experts Technician:
Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
