Job Title – Customer Meter Engineer

Job Location Pearl River, NY 10965-Onsite from day one --Need to be local

Years of Experience: 5 years

· Related Industry Background: 5 years of related work experience within an electric metering and/or electric field.

· Travel: Must be willing to travel inside and outside the Company service territory as needed

· Target Start Date: As soon as possible

· Interview Process: 1 virtual interview & 1 in person interview

· Type of hire: 6 month contract to start, extensions based on performance, possibility of FTE, Schedule: 8 hour workday

Job Description: 

-Ensures implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed, and ensures safe work practices and environmental protection per company policy and governmental regulations.

-Assists in planning, organizing, and controlling all electric metering compliance activities related to electric meters, including Smart Meters and Opt Out Meters.

-Assists in the development of metering/tool forecasting and ensures responsibilities and goals are achieved within budgetary guidelines.

-Develops, implements, evaluates, and monitors testing procedures and strategies to ensure regulatory testing guidelines are met for all electric meters, including Smart Meters and Opt Out Meters.

-Conducts training as necessary  

-Assists in the review and approval of company electric metering equipment  

-Works effectively with internal/external customers, regulatory and union officials.

-Evaluates customer drawings, metering equipment, and related interface measurement equipment; develops standard designs, drawings, and specifications in conjunction with the Company’s Specifications for Electrical Installations and other published standards.

-Updates metering computer software applications as required and provides computer support (application and programming) for all applications; evaluates and recommends new technology applications.

-Assists in the timely purchase of meters, transformers, and other metering devices; acts as departmental liaison with Utility of the Future representatives; assists in development and review of procedures and policies regarding electric metering applications.

-Coordinates with vendors and other departments, in the analysis of new metering systems and their impact on shop test/repair operations and corporate billing systems.

-Support and manage the Meter Test Program. Assists Operating Supervisors in the implementation of the regulatory test program, review of test procedures, equipment and methods used in the testing, repair and evaluation of all metering devices.

-Participate in PSC meetings and represents company in industry metering committees, when required.

-Provide technical support to other departments, such as but not limited to, Meter & Test, Revenue Protection, Energy Efficiency, Energy Services, New Business and Customer Operations.

Responsibilities/Job Description:

The Customer Meter Engineer, performs and provides the highest degree of technical capability and expertise in electric revenue metering by developing methods, procedures, specifications, software and hardware requirements for the application, initialization and testing of revenue metering equipment and identifying improvements for efficient shop operation.  

Required Skills:

-Minimum 5 years of related work experience within an electric metering and/or electric field

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

-Ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff and various levels of management.

-Excellent oral and written communications skills.

-Well organized, detail oriented and flexible.

-Demonstrated knowledge of utility metering, distribution and transmission

-Drivers License (DOT not required, may drive personal vehicle, upon request, but not expected)

Preferred Skills:

-Master’s Degree

-Experience in software applications and maintenance.

-Demonstrated work experience with regulatory agencies.

-Demonstrated experience with standard designs, drawings and specifications

Education or Certification Requirement:

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
