Job description

We're seeking someone to join our team as a Smart Buildings Engineer to lead the deployment and lifecycle management of smart building technologies, bridging technical design and field implementation to drive operational efficiency, connectivity, and innovation across our real estate portfolio.
In the Corporate Services division, we empower our businesses by creating collaborative workplace solutions and commercial services that enhance the employee and client experience, while optimizing the value of our sourcing and third-party lifecycle to enable the Firm to do-and-win business. This is a Director level position within Corporate Real Estate, which is responsible for overseeing the management, workplace design and acquisition/disposition activities of the Firm's properties (lease or purchase).

What you'll do in the role:
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and operation of Building Management/Automation Systems (BMS/BAS) and smart building technologies across the portfolio
  • Coordinate building technology deployments and support system configuration, commissioning, and validation activities
  • Serve as a technical liaison with vendors, contractors, IT, and engineering teams to ensure secure, reliable system connectivity and performance
  • Manage third-party partners and support project execution, budgeting, and delivery in collaboration with capital projects and construction teams
  • Lead IoT/smart device lifecycle management, including onboarding, inventory, commissioning, and decommissioning
  • Ensure cybersecurity, governance, and compliance alignment for smart building systems while supporting risk assessments and remediation efforts

What you'll bring to the role:
  • At least 6 years' relevant experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience
  • Knowledge of building communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks)
  • Strong understanding of OT/IoT networking concepts and experience partnering with IT/network engineering teams
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and third-party partners in a complex environment
  • Proven project management capability with the ability to prioritize initiatives and collaborate across cross-functional teams

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $130,000 and $183,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
