POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Boat Maintenance Technician Department: Boat Rentals

Salary Range: D.O.E Reports to: Boat Rentals Maintenance Supervisor

Employment Status: Seasonal/Full-time FLSA Status: Non-exempt


POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and dependable incumbent to support our Boat Rentals Department. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing rental boats and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality experiences for our customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on rental boats
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues
  • Maintain outboard and inboard engines
  • Inspect and service batteries, bilge pumps, steering systems, and safety equipment
  • Complete minor fiberglass, upholstery, and cosmetic repairs as needed
  • Prepare boats for daily rental operations (fueling, fluid checks, safety checks)
  • Maintain maintenance logs and service records
  • Respond promptly to on-the-water service calls when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with marina safety standards and manufacturer guidelines
  • Assist dock staff when operational support is needed
  • Possess the ability to react productively to other duties as reasonably assigned

QUALIFICATIONS(i.e. credentials, certifications)

Previous marine mechanic or small engine repair experience preferred; Knowledge of boat systems (electrical, fuel, cooling, steering); Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues efficiently; Basic understanding of marine safety regulations; Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor conditions; Valid driver’s license required; Marine technician certification (preferred but not required)

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred but not required. Certification of applicable skills/training preferred.

Experience

Previous maintenance/electrical/plumbing/construction experience preferred. Boating experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of APM marina services and amenities.
  • Skills which allow for the tactful resolution of guest problems or concerns.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in ISO/EMS awareness.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in employee orientation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazard communication.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazardous materials response/respiratory protection.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in emergency response.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in recyclable materials.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in blood borne pathogen awareness.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, maintenance and proper safety.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The performance of stated functions and duties may occur in, but are not limited to: office settings, confined spaces such as boat hulls, public or common areas such as restaurant or retail establishment; inclement weather conditions may be a factor including rain, snow, wind, extreme temperatures. General industry levels of noise and stimuli should be expected in all settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands of the position may include, but are not limited to sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying and otherwise maneuvering heavy objects with or without assistance. Climbing, crouching, reaching, extending and other bodily movements in work areas such as boats, office settings, docks.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

It is important that the incumbent be able to communicate effectively in English including speaking, understanding, reading, and writing for the purpose of general interactions with staff, guests and customers. Additional linguistic proficiency is welcomed and encouraged, but not required for the performance of the position.
