POSITION SUMMARY
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will define and drive the technical direction for modern, cloudnative applications built with Flutter across web and mobile. Operating as a senior individual contributor and technical leader, you will partner closely with product, architecture, and engineering leadership to make pragmatic, highimpact design decisions that balance speed, quality, and longterm maintainability.

You will remain handson with criticalpath systems while mentoring senior and staff engineers, translating prototypes into scalable, productiongrade platforms. You will establish clear expectations for reliability, security, performance, and operability, ensuring strong engineering fundamentals-such as testing, observability, and CI/CD-are embedded from day one. Through technical leadership, collaboration, and example, you will elevate engineering quality, accelerate delivery, and foster a culture of craftsmanship, learning, and continuous improvement.

Expectations for the Role

  • Set and drive the technical vision across cloud platforms and frontend web and mobile applications, aligning architecture, standards, and execution
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for highimpact, crossteam initiatives, guiding architecture, design decisions, and engineering best practices
  • Lead solutions from prototype to production, ensuring performance, security, reliability, scalability, and operational readiness
  • Define and influence platform, framework, and tooling direction in partnership with engineering leadership, product teams, and the opensource community
  • Mentor senior engineers and foster crossfunctional collaboration while staying current with emerging technologies and driving innovation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including handson Agile delivery of enterprisescale, distributed systems
  • 5+ years developing userfacing applications using Flutter, Angular, and/or React across web and mobile platforms
  • 3+ years of experience designing and building solutions in a public cloud environment (GCP, Azure, or equivalent)
  • 3+ years applying best practices for security, availability, resiliency, scalability, and performance in production systems
  • Experience designing or integrating AI or generative AI solutions, including APIs, models, or platforms
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence engineering direction without relying on formal authority

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the health, wellness, or pharmacy domain
  • Contributions to opensource projects, published technical content, or patented innovations
  • Fullstack development experience, including APIs, data stores, and cloud services
  • Strong crossfunctional communication skills with the ability to align stakeholders and drive outcomes across organizational boundaries

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
