Job description

The Senior Software Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of Deltek Costpoint and other applications that support enterprise financial and project accounting operations. This position requires deep technical expertise in Costpoint and other development frameworks, strong database and integration skills, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Deltek Costpoint and other applications supporting enterprise financial and project accounting operations.

Develop and maintain custom Costpoint components including screens, processes, reports, and integrations using supported Costpoint development frameworks.

Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects supporting Costpoint reporting and data integrity.

Design and develop other programs as assigned according to business need.

Support and enhance integrations between Costpoint and upstream/downstream systems (e.g., HR, payroll, reporting, data warehouses).

Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues related to Costpoint performance, data accuracy, and system behavior.

Partner with Finance, Accounting, and business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into technical designs and scalable solutions.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and application support team members.

Support Costpoint and other program upgrades, patches, and version changes, including impact analysis, remediation, and post-upgrade validation.

Ensure adherence to internal security standards, audit requirements, and compliance controls related to financial systems.

Create and maintain technical documentation, development standards, and system design artifacts.

Participate in change management, release planning, and post-implementation verification activities.

Collaborate with Infrastructure and Database teams to ensure system availability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness.

Follow established SDLC, ITIL, and governance processes for development, deployment, and support activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum of 5-7 years of professional software development experience, including significant hands-on experience developing, customizing, and supporting Deltek Costpoint applications in a production environment.

Strong proficiency in SQL, relational database design, and the development of complex queries, stored procedures, and database objects.

Experience building and supporting integrations between Costpoint and upstream/downstream systems, such as HR, payroll, reporting, or data warehouse platforms.

Solid working knowledge of enterprise financial and project accounting concepts and processes.

Experience supporting Costpoint upgrades, patches, and version changes, including impact analysis, remediation, and post-upgrade validation.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard software development and change management tools.

Ability to work independently in a remote environment with limited direct supervision.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and support staff.

Familiarity with SDLC, ITIL, and formal change management/governance processes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Deep understanding of Deltek Costpoint architecture, modules, and development frameworks, including custom screens, processes, and reports.

Functional knowledge of a wide range of development tools, programming languages, and other skills necessary to implement enterprise business programs other than costpoint.

Familiarity with financial systems audit requirements, internal security standards, and compliance controls.

Working knowledge of enterprise system integration patterns, data exchange formats, and API-based or batch integration approaches.

Awareness of secure coding practices and vulnerability management for financial applications.

Proficiency in SQL Server (or equivalent RDBMS) performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.

Experience diagnosing and resolving complex production issues under time pressure.

Competence in preparing clear technical documentation, development standards, and system design artifacts.

Effectiveness in communicating technical constraints and system impacts to Finance, Accounting, and other business stakeholders.

Capability to work independently in a remote setting and apply sound professional judgment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Duties require frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse, extended periods of close visual work viewing a monitor, and occasional reaching, bending, or lifting of office equipment or supplies weighing up to 15 pounds.

Working conditions include a standard office environment. The employee must maintain a reliable internet connection and a workspace suitable for handling confidential financial data. Occasional work outside of core business hours may be required to support production issues, system upgrades, or release activities.
