What are the typical responsibilities and challenges of an SLP aide in educational settings?

As an SLP Aide in a school environment, you’ll assist speech-language pathologists with preparing materials, setting up therapy sessions, and supporting students during activities designed to improve communication skills. A common challenge is managing the needs of multiple students with varying abilities while staying within the scope of practice set by your supervising SLP. Collaboration with teachers, therapists, and parents is essential to ensure student progress and maintain clear communication. Additionally, SLP Aides often help with documentation and organizational tasks, which requires attention to detail and adaptability to shifting priorities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SLP aide?

To thrive as an SLP Aide, you need a foundational understanding of speech and language development, basic patient care skills, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with therapy materials, data collection software, and office management systems is often required. Strong interpersonal communication, patience, and organizational skills help you support clients and collaborate effectively with speech-language pathologists. These abilities ensure efficient therapy sessions, accurate progress tracking, and a positive therapeutic environment for clients.

Skilled Home Health Speech Therapist (SLP)

At Virginia Home Care Services, Inc., we're more than a home health agency—we're a compassionate team dedicated to helping patients live fuller, more independent lives in the comfort of their own homes. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, evidence-based care with empathy, professionalism, and heart. If you're looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference every day, this is your opportunity.

We are seeking a Full-Time Speech Therapist (SLP) to join our dynamic and supportive team. This role offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to provide truly personalized care. You will work directly with patients, addressing speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs, empowering them to regain independence and achieve their goals—all in a home-based setting.

We proudly serve patients throughout Prince William County, VA, including Woodbridge, Manassas, Manassas Park, Dumfries, Triangle, Occoquan, Lake Ridge, and Montclair.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing assessments
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans to improve communication, swallowing, and cognitive skills
  • Provide hands-on therapy and practical interventions to promote progress and independence
  • Educate patients and caregivers with clear guidance and techniques for at-home exercises
  • Track and adjust therapy plans based on patient progress, ensuring optimal outcomes
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team (nurses, physicians, PTs, OTs, and more) to deliver coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation to meet clinical and compliance standards

What We're Looking For:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • Active Virginia SLP license and CPR certification
  • 2+ years of experience as a Speech Therapist (home health experience preferred but not required)
  • Strong clinical judgment and evidence-based practice skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Compassionate, patient-first approach
  • Experience with Home Care Home Base (HCHB) is a plus

Why Join Us:

  • Meaningful Work – Make a direct impact on patients' quality of life every day
  • Flexible Scheduling – Enjoy autonomy while managing your caseload
  • Supportive Team Culture – Join a team that values and supports your expertise
  • Competitive Pay & Growth Opportunities – Advance your career in a trusted, established agency
  • Work-Life Balance – Provide exceptional care without the hospital stress

Join us in delivering compassionate, exceptional care—and grow your career with a team that truly cares about you.

Virginia Home Care Services, Inc. is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. Compensation: $90.00 - $130.00 per hour

Professional caregivers go by many names: homemakers, home care aides, home health aides, certified nursing assistants, personal care assistants, direct care workers. No matter the name, what they all have in common is a calling to care for people in the comfort of their own homes.

This agency is independently owned and operated. Your application will go directly to the agency, and all hiring decisions will be made by the management of this agency. All inquiries about employment at this agency should be made directly to the agency location, and not to Home Care Evolution Corporate.
