Job Description
The Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1 to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Interventional Trials Manager, the Research Study Coordinator will support multiple translational and clinical research studies focused on lung infection, inflammation, immunity, and fibrosis in the Translational and Interventional Trials Research Group at University of Washington Medical Center within the University of Washington's Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.
The training requirement for this position includes UW Medicine-specific and other training such as Human Subjects Training, Good Clinical Practice, HIPPA, biosafety, bloodborne pathogens etc. and will be provided during position onboarding. The Research Study Coordinator will primarily work at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake Campus and occasionally at Harborview Medical Center. This position will require handling of human biospecimens in a class II Biosafety Cabinet.
Key Responsibilities
Research Subject Screening & Enrollment (55%)

• Screen patients in Epic to identify eligible study participants.
• Assess eligibility using protocol-specific inclusion and exclusion criteria.
• Obtain informed consent from participants or legally authorized representatives.
• Coordinate collection of biological samples, including respiratory specimens, blood, and urine.
• Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure participant safety and protocol compliance.
• Support study management activities and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with developing and improving screening workflows.

Biospecimen Processing & Management (25%)

• Process and manage human biospecimens according to established protocols.
• Track specimen inventory and verify consent compliance.
• Coordinate shipment and receipt of research specimens in accordance with institutional and federal regulations.
• Assist with development and implementation of laboratory processing procedures.

Data Management & Reporting (20%)

• Abstract clinical data from electronic medical records.
• Enter and maintain study data in systems such as REDCap.
• Track samples using laboratory inventory databases such as Freezerworks.
• Perform database maintenance, sample tracking, and basic data queries.
• Prepare reports and summaries for investigators.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Qualifications:

• Ability to work with hospitalized patients at Harborview Medical Center.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and capacity to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in clinical research operations.
• Laboratory experience, including pipetting, biospecimen processing, or work in a BSL-2 environment.
• Experience with research data management and electronic data capture systems.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to varying work styles and systems.

Working Conditions
Primary location is Harborview Medical Center, with occasional work at UW Medical Center - Montlake. This position requires handling human biospecimens in a Class II Biosafety Cabinet.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
Pay Range Minimum:
$45,144.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$57,252.00 annual
